Thanks for continuing to look at this for me. Every suggestion is helpful.
I had considered the possibility that he may have gone to the 'States and lived with son David or son James. Also, that he may have gone to England to stay with daughter Barbara or son John but all my research to-date has found no evidence of this, census etc. Also, he was 70 at the time of his wife's death and it does not seem likely to me, that he would give up all he knows and move from Scotland but anything is possible. His son Walter remained in Scotland but again, I can find no links via census etc. There is another son, Charles but he disappears from the radar after 1871 and despite much research, I cannot find his whereabouts but that is another route I suppose. It really is the biggest Dalgleish mystery for me! The death certificate of son James (d 1893) may provide a clue but I can only get this by sending a cheque for $40 to the US as its not available on line. Plus there is no guarantee that his father is mentioned on the certificate.
For example, daughter Barbara died in England in 1886 but there is no mention of parents on the death certificate (see attached). That's a real shame because that may have given a great clue.
I know he died before 1905 as he is marked as deceased on son Walter's death certificate. That's the only hard evidence I have. Apart from Barbara and James (don't know about Charles) all the others died after 1905.
