Completed Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Requests / Re: Bacchus 1851 please

(So much for Wikipedia!) Thanks again for clearing some of that up for me.

I was thinking more of Bacchus in the pub's name as a family connection to Selby. I expect that the names endured longer than the publicans!

Mark, thanks for your information!
Really interesting about the public house called Bacchus & Barrel in Micklegate, Selby.

From what I have been able to find, Selby is in North Yorkshire (being from across the pond, I'm not at all familiar with the intricacies of Yorkshire ridings).

While, the census information has Isaac Bacchus being born in Hull (East Riding for anyone not familiar), it doesn't mean that his family ties do not extend to Selby. Something to look into, anyway!

Nevertheless, it appears that Isaac was baptized June 15, 1803 (Holy Trinity, Hull) son of William and Mary Bacchus and that he had at least two siblings, Mary (1793) and William (1801). I have no more information on the siblings but it may even be that William was responsible for the pub in Selby, although this doesn't really fit the early dates associated with the pub being in the hands of Samuel coats. I have no idea how common the Bacchus (with its various spellings) surname was in Yorkshire.

Cheers

MAJOR EDIT
(For some reason I mistook Selby as Ann's maiden name (which didn't fit with my records) rather than the place of birth (which does) so I have removed that part)

It's been a good while since my initial post and I'm a little confused about the subsequent dates of the entries but thank you dee for the 1861 census details - I'm not sure that I had noted them.

I have that Isaac Bacchus married Ann Townsley in 1832 and that they had six children: William, Sarah Ann, Maria Townsley, Mary Elizabeth, Frederick Mamby and Joseph.

Maria Townsley Bacchus married William Grofton in 1865 and had at least 6 children. She was Isaac's eldest surviving daughter (per the marriage announcement - thanks for that Mark) but not the only daughter.

Mary Elizabeth Bacchus married my great-great grandfather, German born Ludwig Hoffman, his third wife. They first emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada where their last child was born but later went to South Africa, where both Ludwig and Mary Elizabeth died in their senior years.

Cheers

Oh, I posted the following query in the Headstone Pictures page by accident:
Hi Lodger!
Information on this specific family may have come up before but not sure how to find it, if it has:  Alexander Littlejohn (c1826-1893) s/o Archibald and Marion (Paterson) was married to Bethea (aka Elizabeth) Reid (d.1885). They both died in Cambusnethan so may well be buried in its cemetery.
Born c1828, Bethea/Elizabeth Reid's mother's maiden surname was Brownlie but I don't know her parents' full names, have on you got any ideas? Or information on this Littlejohn couple (they had about 8 children as well)
(I did find a post about Arch'd and Marion and a couple of their children but they did have about 9 in all!)
PS: I finally found this https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=183738.msg2750018#msg2750018 but still looking for more on Bethia/Elizabeth Reid and her Brownlee connection!

Thanks in advance !!

Thanks Lodger! He seems to be the only child they had together. However, Jane (whose Leggat family was living in Cumberland by then) later remarried and had one other child.
Cheers!

That's totally them! Henry Sr. and "Nancy" (Agnes)'s son Archibald was married to my g-g-g aunt, Jane Frew Halliday (oops! Leggat), but died less than six years into their marriage. What an interesting web of relationships you are helping to weave together!
1862 must have been such a difficult year for the family. A similar occurrence happened on another branch of my tree where, in Yorkshire, when my great-grandmother was just 3, her 18-month-old brother died on the day the birth of the next, who followed seven days later and then their mother, less than three weeks after that.! It was consumption. I just can't imagine!
And yes, the 'Rafferty' is clearly a clerical error that occurred somewhere down the line.
It is the same family, little Isabella, son of Matthew and Sarah, was the granddaughter of George and Isabella sr.
Thanks again!

The details from the Plot Book (only from 1879).
In the South lair -
WILLIAM MUIRHEAD, aged 36 years. 11th May 1914.
JANE MUIRHEAD, aged 70 years. 26th March 1927.

Hi Lodger,

I believe the above Jane was Jane McPhail, wife of William Muirhead. Do you have anything relating to the McPhails (her parents Henry and Nancy nee Lafferty were both originally from Ireland but had their family in Wishaw; one son, George apparently married Isabella Wyper)?

Thanks!
