Agnetta,

The name McAllister[ two l's] does appear in Down, whether from records I don't know, but Elizabeth McAllister was my Grandmothers mother, born in Newtownards around 1855. She married Thomas McLennaghan, and they had five children that I know of that initially settled in Scotland...... Ellen [ Nellie ]McLennaghan married Sam McTear. Annie....married a  Johnny Mackin and lived in New Lanark. Margaret[ Maggie]...married a White and also lived in New Lanark. Elizabeth...married Andrew McTear and lived in Carmyle near Glasgow. Johnny....lived to 107 and settled eventually in Ontario with 10 kids. The McTears and McLennaghans also came from Newtownards in the 1800's. Sorry, can't help with the rest.

Hello Jim
Thank you very much for all that information, I will contact the Linen Hall Library post haste, and have a look at the others, some of which I have'nt got. William McTear.b1827 was my Great Grandfather, and thanks to many and Genes Reunited, I am in touch with most of his twelve childrens families, all of whom settled in Scotland initially, with the majority of his descendants still there like myself. My own Grandfather Samuel McTear.b 1870 in Saltcoats had ten children. [ All with the same christian names as his fathers family] So although our tree is rapidly expanding by width, we just can't seem to get any further back than 1800. Have just recently contacted Harry Broadrick hoping he can come up with something, and your reply is most welcome and greatly appreciated.

Good luck and thanks again, Davy.

Hi Folks, I am looking for any information on the McTear family in general though my predecessors were William McTear and Mary Whiteside [ circa 1800 ] from I think the Newtownards area. Their son William [ b1827 ] married and had 2 children, William.b1855 and Mary. William [1827]'s first wife died, and he then moved to Saltcoats in Scotland and married Agnes Cairns on February 11th 1859. Her  family were also from Newtownards. They were joined in Saltcoats by his brother Robert McTear and his wife Jane Lundie Smith. Also need info on a William McTear who married Mary Lindsay and had a daughter Sarah born in Stranraer in 1861.  Pretty sure they came from Down also, as no record of them in Scotland apart from Sarah's birth . The fact that the McTears in Greyabbey, Ballyblack, Bangor, and Newtownards are all in close proximity as shown in Ross Davies site, and that the christian names of the children are mostly the same, make me think that they all connect...........somehow !!
