Kent Lookup Requests / Sevenoaks Chronicle Look Up
« on: Wednesday 23 July 25 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Evening All

Just received an Ancestry hint for my grandfather Charles Arthur Julian Dennington.  An article in the Sevenoaks Chronicle 3 January 1941 which i think may be his first marriage.

Would anyone be able to send me the article?  I dont have newspaper access at the moment as I'm too busy at work to make use of it but I'm intrigued to see what the article says.

Hi David
I hope you are still a member!!!
My computer had recently died and despite backing up recently I have still lost some images.
Back in 2012 you very kindly sent me a photo of my great grandmothers headstone and I wondered if you still have this image (long shot I know).
Regards
Helen

Hi Pauline

Thanks for your post.

He was a grocers assistant on his marriage certificate and by 1939 a driver

He is on the 1939 register with his new family but she was with her first husband on 1921 census

Thanks

Morning All

Bit of a long shot but can anyone help or point me in the right direction to find my great grandfather on the 1921 census.

Here's what I know:

Walter Smith born 3/11/1893 in Birstall, Batley

Married Clara Porritt 28/7/1915 in Birstall, Batley

Lilian Smith born 30/11/1915 (my gran) in Heckmondwike

Clifford Smith born 13/4/1919 in Heckmondwike

Walter was conscripted in WW1 and was discharged 24/11/2019 - Army Ordnance Corps private 025537

The 1920 electoral roll shows both Walter and Clare at 36 Walkley Lane, Heckmondwike which is where Clara is on the 1921 census.

Parents Thomas Dixon Smith and Elizabeth (Robinson).

On searching the 1921 he is not with either his wife and children or his parents.  This does fit with the family story that when he returned from WW1 he didn't come back to his wife.

Realise this is a long shot with the name SMITH but any help or suggestions greatfully appreciated.

Thanks for reading

Technical Help / Software Help
« on: Friday 27 November 20 19:20 GMT (UK)  »
Evening All
I have used Family Tree Maker 2005 for years on my old laptop with no issues.  It continued to work fine after the upgrade to Windows 10.
Just bought a new laptop, installed FTM from the disk and it wont work. The program opens but is unresponsive and freezes up.
Anyone come across this who can help?
Or can anyone recommend software which is similar and free (or cheap).
Thanks

Thanks for your posts "groom".

The death of Jane is actually Michael's grandmother!!

I can't find Emma or baby Ann on 1861 UK census but neither are with him in USA 1860 census.  If they died on the voyage would their deaths be recorded in the UK or Amercia?
Thanks
