Sorry Micheal,

Looking at his medal card when I was writing the text to you.  It was from the web site Military Genealogy where his details of enlistment are.  It mentions Newcastle as his place of birth and his place of enlistment but the New Mills comes from a document a relative has, his army records, where it mentions New Mills as a place of birth, Northumberland!  Sorry about that, I've seen his medal card and there isn't much on it.  He never got a pension so he's not listed there either.  There are no parents names mentioned on any documents so we're at a loss...I'll keep searching it's bound to come to light some time!

Cheers

George Uren enlisted into the Royal Field Artillery in Newcastle upon Tyne, this is something I have been told, not researched.  It has been mentioned about Newmills of Northumberland being his birth place, but to be honest apart from his marriage in 1911, and his death in 1917 any census records from 1901 back have me baffled, I've tried a million ways to spell this name and have come up with nothing.  I'm now trying to do a search for his birth via parish records as his name is not mentioned in the BMD, a George Uren was born in 1885 in Falmouth near the year of the person I'm looking for but he diead a few years later so it's not him unfortunately.

George Uren's father was George (as if we wouldn't of guessed)  no idea about his mother or other siblings.  They were married in Hetton le Hole, Durham.  At the time of the marriage he was living in Station Road Hetton le Hole.  Both he and his Father were Coach man.  I've noticed that Uren is a very popular name in Cornwall and have tried searching about there...Any help would be great.

Ayrshire / Old Cumnock
« on: Monday 14 January 08 15:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I'm after any information as to where I can obtain help/information about a Catholic Birth in the Old Cumnock area.  My GG Grandfather James Hannan was born in about 1851/1852 (as found on the 1891 census)  although previous census say he is born Scotland and Ayreshire.  His Father ( another James Hannan) was born in Ireland; no county mentioned but his wife was called Margaret and in 1861 they lived in County Durham.  I can not locate any information to him with this town/village and any help would be great.  Maybe a church name, record office address anything.

Cheers

I have a marriage certificate from 1911, where George Uren Married Margaret Harle in Houghton le Spring, County Durham.  His Father is named as being 'George Uren' as well, his Fathers occupation was that of a domestic coachman and George (son) was a groom, living in the Hetton area.  I have searched everywhere for him using his age of 25 years in 1911 as a starting point.  He was also killed in the Great war in 1917, listed on the CWGC as G Uren.  All I have of New Mills Northumberland is because of something a family member has told me, this information isn't first hand either.  His medal card I got also told me that he informed the military he was born Northumberland, Newcastle!  But his surname is popular in Cornwall, so after years of searching I am still no further forward.

Any help would be brilliant
Cheers Chappie!

I was wondering if anyone can help me find where New Mills is in Northumberland?  I have found out my great grandfather may have possibly been born there in and around 1886.  Also can anyone tell me of which churches are nearby so I can try and search. I have looked on the census for George but to no avail...any help with any of the above would be fantastic

I have no idea if it features in any books, I don't really know Langley Park well although I've heard of it.  I'll see if anywhere has any old photographs of the area

Cheers
