Somerset / Help to find William ADAMS marriage
« on: Tuesday 08 January 13 13:14 GMT (UK)  »
William Adams of Winford, Somerset married Honour, probably about 1738/9. Their first child was baptised 1740 at Winford. I'm trying to find Honour's surname and where she was from. Any help, suggestions much appreciated.

There is quite a lot of information about Southbroom on the Wiltshire OPC website. Just put OPC Southbroom into google. It has the marriage transcripts and early baptismal records.

Matthew Arnold was sent to Salisbury Gaol, 4yrs penal servitude for sheep stealing. There is a long newspaper article in Salisbury and Winchester Journal dated 14 Dec 1861.
Petty Sessions Aug 8 1864 He was  summoned by PC Light for obstucting Park St, by leaving his horse and wagon therein, without any person being in charge contrary To the Town Act. Bench fined him 10s
There was also an action for Assault and False imprisonment against him 1874 and other reports.
All these newspaper accounts are available online at the British Newspaper Archive.
A 2 day subsciption to view up to 100 pages costs £6.95. All the articles are too long for me to type out.
Hope this helps.

I know this is an old post but I am seeking information about Lewis Preston whose son Thomas Wilkinson Preston was apprentice to Jeremiah Rosher in 1770. He, Thomas became master of the Carpenters Company in 1804. I also want to confirm this Lewis married Elizabeth Stanton.

In google books if you put Batts and Collingbourne Ducis, the Collectanea Topographica mentions several Batts. There is some interesting information about C/D as well.

I'm in the process of transcribing the early marriage record for Collingbourne Ducis and there are
several Orams, so the family were resident in the village for several generations.
There is also mention of Edward Oram, shoe maker and family he/they were removed to Pewsey union workhouse, no dates unfortunately. This from Rev Hodgsons notes about his parishoners.
If you are coming to the uk plan a trip to Wiltshire Archives.
