Hi

It's a tenement building - I grew up in the next street albeit a bit later. The buildings were put up in the late 1880/1890s

Found my folder from when I last looked at this. This was something I looked at and found nothing to confirm she was a grand-daughter. Whether another couple with same names. That I don't know. The only thing that points to it possibly being them is the area.

I do have that baptism already in Dalry but the post-it where I scribbled has disappeared. Was a long time ago now and the glue probably gave up but hopefully it'll come to me because there was definitely some reason I didn't add her on the basis of that record.

Thanks I will look into that one again - I did last time I looked at this and seem to remember I ruled it out but I can't remember why (I'll dig my notes out).

And sorry I should have made it clear Peter was a miner - pretty much all that side of my family were

Not necessarily. She lived in Dalry when they got married but doesn't mean she was born there

I don't think they're mine. I don't see how they can be. This is part of the problem.

If it was correct it would mean they were both 15 (or possibly younger) when they got married. I know possible but pretty unusual

Not a lot. Just the usual banns info.

On hers says 'Peter Young in Barony Parish Glasgow to Christian Sheddan in this parish booked 7th August' .

On his says 'Peter Young Coalier in this parish and Christian Shedden in the parish of Dalry' 14th August.

There are 2 sets published as was customary where the bride and groom lived in different parishes

Hi

Yup the naming converntion which they seemed to be very rigid about just doesn't fit. Phew! Glad it's not just me :) But annoyingly they didn't give middle names for the most part

The death I can't make my mind up. It's not conclusive and it's at odds with 1841 census but then... The 1841 shows a Peter and Christian both aged 60 with a daughter Elizabeth. Their youngest daughter was indeed Elizabeth but for all 3 of them the ages can't be right even with rounding.

I can't find anything conclusive to say she was born in Ayrshire and as pit families did move about a wee bit she could just as easily not have been.

I seem to remember putting this away about 15 years ago because it made my head hurt and I didn't have Ancestry then :).

Hi All

Where to start with this one 🙂 One of my brickwalls.
My 4 x gt grandmother is Ann Young (She married William Mair - sometimes mis-spelt as Muir - 5th March 1830 in Cambuslang. The Mair family were all coal miners for many generations.
Ann Young was baptised on 6th April 1801, Barony Glasgow. Her parents were Peter Young and Christian Shedden. Now onto the difficult bit....

I'm trying to find out the following things :
1. The date of birth of both Peter Young and Christian Shedden. I know they married 14th August 1796 in Barony, Glasgow.
2. I'm also trying to trace both sets of parents. I recently did a search on other folks trees on Ancestry and for Peter the suggested parents are James Geddes Young and Anne Campbell. For Christian James Shedden and Agnes Short. There's a lot of trees have this.
So why am I questioning it? Mainly because I can't find a thing that substantiates this and also I don't just copy other folks stuff. I always check and confirm and to cut to the chase I can't.

Anyone got any suggestions how I may be able to verify this info?
