Hi

He's had all sorts of occupations - foundry labourer being the most common one tho it says handloom weaver on his death cert. One of these things we'll never know I suppose.

I have the death certs for the children that survived.

Yes I've looked at the wills. Not a sos unfortunately

Hi

Yes I have and that's even more elusive. His mum is Henrietta Dollar. Not as simple as you suggest cos you search and nada. I have many times! I've been using SP since it launched what seems like a very long time ago - not a newbie to using it.

Thanks

Ann

1855 one - won't let me upload the snippet but I have already given you the info from there in opening post.

Only thing I didn't say was it's recorded as thier 6th child. Henrietta is the first. So it's the 4 in the gap that are missing.

Hi All

This one is horrible - I've looked and looked for 20+ years and got not very far at all. It's a bit of a multi ask because it covers 3 generations so let me explain.

John Fulton was my gt x3 grandfather. He married Henrietta Dollar (don't know where or when). His son Robert is my current mystery man.

Robert married Janet Faulds in 1843 in Barony, Glasgow (Janet was from Bridgeton). They had several children some of which didn't make it past infancy sadly.

What am I trying to find out?

1. I can't find any baptism for Robert. Apart from 1861 where there is no census return (see below) he was consistent throughout with his age and saying he was born in Beith Ayrshire ( not a record for him to be found, not just in Beith). This all points to being born c 1818. He died in Bridgeton in 1886 and I have his death cert.

2. Robert's children. He married Janet Faulds in 1843 (Barony) but according to the census they seemed to move about a wee bit and kids not all born there. They had 9 children in all but 4 of them didn't make it past infancy and those are the ones I'm trying to find.

On daughter Agnes born 1855's birth cert it states 1 living daughter (that's Henrietta named after her grandma Henrietta Dollar) who was born 1845 and 3 x deceased males and 1 x deceased female. Then there's a gap where the missing 3 males and 1 female who didn't make it are. The next is Agnes 1 1855 followed by Mary, George and another Agnes who was born in Rutherglen and Robert is described again as a foundry labourer (Agnes 2 born 1866 is my gt x 2).

So I'm trying to find out who the 4 were who didn't make it and George's baptism. This is where it gets odd.

3. Robert came from a weaving community in Ayrshire but then appears in Glasgow as a foundry worker. That bit I'm assuming he moved to get work as a lot did in the mid 1880s.However his daughter Mary born in 1859 was born in Liverpool. And then George born 1861/62 in Ireland (no idea where and can't find him but might explain why there's no census for them for 1861).

Why would someone move away from Glasgow where there must have been work given Glasgow's proximity to the Lanarkshire coalfields elsewhere at that time? That one is a mystery as this family don't have any obvious Irish connections.

Sorry that was a bit of a ramble. It's all a bit complicated and I hope I've explained it properly.

Thanks

Ann

Yes I'm getting the same error message. I suspect it's down to the annual opening another year's worth of records. Seem to recall it's happened in previous years.

Hi All,

This one has been bugging me for 22 years. I decided to give it a dust down and have another look as since last time I looked I have now got subs with Ancestry and FindMyPast. No joy.

So this is one last ask for some help on trying to find these guys before I admit defeat.

Patrick Carroll and Bridget McGurk married on the 30th Jan 1839 in St Mary's RC church in Carrickmacross. They are my 3 x gt grandparents. I have the marriage record. I'm trying to find :

1. Their baptisms. Having found them on the 1851 census in Scotland where they were in Calton Glasgow, i'm estimating their birth years to be c 1816 and 1817 respectively.

2. Patrick's parents - Have Bridgets because she died in Scotland. Patrick may well have but it was sometime between 1851 and 1854 because Bridget remarried in 1854 and is shown as a widow. Scottish death records pre 1855 are Parish records and don't show parents.

3. Baptisms for their children. I am aware of 4 - William b c1838, Rose Ann b c1841, Marion b c1844 and James b1847. They all applied for Poor Relief at some point so I have confirmed they are Co. Monaghan from the North Lanarkshire Poor Records.

Any help/suggestions anyone can give will be most gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Ann
