Sorry for delay - I was called away again.
Yes - I have just seen the entry on the 1891 census, where it gives the name 'Prinkes' and 'Pimlico' in brackets.
Thanks to everyone.

Thanks for the help offered so far.
The name is Richard Samuel Mitchell, born 1843.
He is the second husband of Sarah Allaway.
The name 'Pinkes' is on the transcription and the actual census.

Does anyone know which district that this name, 'Pinkes', refers to? It is given as a place of birth for an ancestor of mine. It is listed as, 'Pinkes London' as his place of birth. I have searched the internet with no luck. I noted that it is the name of a Jewish book of records.
He was born in the 1840's, and lived in the St Pancras area.

I can find no trace of the above after his birth in rural Essex. I have found a man of this age and name, sentenced to 7 years transportation by a court in Oxfordshire on 27 June 1836. Can someone check to find his place of birth?
Another member of my family was transported  to VDL for 14 yrs in the same year. This was verified by helpful members of this board, so I am hoping someone can help.

Australia / Abraham WALKER marriage

My Gr Gr Uncle was transported for 14 years to VDL. He left England 12 Jul 1836 on the 'Lady Nugent'. He was born in 1821 in Colchester Essex. He died in Tasmania in 1900. I was informed that he married the year before he died,to a German lady by the name of Margarette Rubenach, in Launceston Tasmania.  It seems highly likely that he had an earlier marriage and possibly children.

Essex / Borstal or School?

I have a relative, George Keeble b1884 in Stratford London. In the 1891 census he is back with his Mother in her birthplace, Colchester. His Father died in 1897 and in the 1901 census he is listed as an 'Inmate' at an establishnent in Thorndon, Suffolk. There are about 30 other boys of the same age, but the first guy is 35 years old and is listed as a Shoemaker.
Does anyone know if this was a detention centre or an Industrial type school?
The address is Thorndon all Saints  Thorndon  Suffolk.

A relative of mine moved to a farm in Dagenham and all his children were married in Romford.
