Thanks everyone.  Doubt too that it means twin. The search continues.

Australia / FreeBMD Search Question
« on: Thursday 01 August 24 02:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rootschatters, it's been a while.   ;D

On the Web site FreeBMD in the UK I have an entry for a birth search using mother's maiden name and District.  I found the birth I was looking for and another name I wasn't expecting directly underneath.

Both names are the same Surname, same mother's Maiden name, same Qtr and year, same Vol 6b and Page 858.  However one is Page 858 and the other is 858a

Does the "a" mean a twin?

Thanks, Red

That is interesting Sparrett. It is possible that the entry for 69 Queensbury Street in Melbourne could be the reason why the marriage to Kate broke down.  1921 she knew Summerton had married again. 1925 Kate married Ashworth and moved to Sydney. So it could have been another marriage or just living together as husband and wife.  As they say the plot thickens.

Yes!! Who was the bigamist first?

There is a letter on the NAA Web Site (search Walter Edward Summerton) in July 1921 by Kate's father complaining about publicly causing Kate distress when she learned of Summerton's other marriage. Kate married Summerton in 1912 and I can't now know when that marriage ended, but she didn't marry Ashworth until 1925, 4 years after the letter.  So, I assume by that time she would be free to marry again.

Dundee, I read all 244 pages of his record.  Well done you for finding the Statement of lies.  He also listed my Kate Ada as his NOK on his WW1 enlistment.

He did go on to have a sad ending.

Thanks again Dundee and Cando, he really was a CAD!!!

My Great Aunty Kate was better off without him!!  I'm thinking now that she had no children to Summerton and as she was 40 when she married Ashworth she appears not to have had children with Ashworth either.  Well I can't find any in VIC or NSW.

I love RootsChat ...... thanks everyone.  ;D

I understood the generation gap, but Oops!! a copy and paste didn't quite do it.

Thanks Neale and Dundee, that gives me lots to go on.  Maddy I think I might buy Kate's death certificate that should have children if any from both marriages.
