Hiya,

Looking forward to hearing more and thanks for the links. Very useful.  It will take me ages to really come to terms with all the information thaty I have gathered.  Like you, my work and family have to take priority.

Hi there, this is how my line goes - it starts in Essex:

John Nightingale had son William Nightingale who died in 1571.
William married Gonar Thurgood.
They had Geoffrey (1550) who married Catherine Clamps (I have a picture of them).
Geoffrey and Catherine had Sir Thomas - 1st Baronet - High Sherriff of Essex.
His first wife was Millicent Clerke (I have a direct line of her family traced back to 980 - fascinating) and they had Thomas in Bassingbourn in 1609.
Thomas married Jane Ventris and they had Robert in Whittlesford in 1639.
Robert married Constantia Newlin and they had Granado in Hauxton (he eventually owned plantations in Barbados).
Granado married Ann Paine and they had Joseph in Toft.
Joseph married Hannah Ivett and they had John in 1755.
John married Elizabeth Thurlborn and they had John in 1797.
He married Sarah Asplen and they had John 1824 who married Eliza Hickman.
They had James George who married Mary Ann Thorp.
They had Harry.
Harry didn't marry Alice Maud Ranscombe (she was previously married) and they had my precious Nan who is 96 years old - Cynthia Leah May Nightingale.

In amongst that lot are hundreds more children, branches off, marriage dates, death dates, birth dates - loads but obviously I have just summarised my direct line. Also, it is important to point out that my later ancestors seem to have been the poorer ones so probably 3rd or 4th children of an esteemed couple - you know, 1st inherits, second in army, third to church...... that's how it used to be.

Would love to know more about your line too.

Hi everyone

I have been to the Surrey office but I am sorry Sue - I forgot to take details of the Burchall connection, which hampered my efforts a bit.  Anyway found the following to fill gaps but not progress any further back:

Children of William and Sarah Blunden/Blundell/Blundle/Blundel/Blondel - all born in Buckland - Jane Bap Feb 13th 1785 - married James Tate on May 5th 1803 (is this yours Sue?).  Mary Bap Aug 5th 1787, Michael Bap April 10th 1791 (yes Buckland - not Banstead!). Joseph Bap May 26th 1793, James Born 1806, Bap Jun 5th 1808, William Bap Jun 5th 1808, Edmund Bap Mar 27th 1812 and Bur April 5th 1812.

Got print of Michael and Lydia's marriage and also James Cook and Phillis Warner's marriage.

No sign of Lydia Cook's Bap in any of the parishes I searched: Sutton, Reigate,  Horley, Chobham, Gatton, Merstham, Bletchingley, Banstead, Epsom, Ewell, Woodmansterne, Leigh, Buckland, Godstone, Tandridge.  Damn that I did not look at Charlwood or a few others!  Anyway - found Amelia Stacey's birth in Godstone - she was the witness at Michael and Lydia's marriage.

Found loads of references to the Tulletts - Louise married Henry Blunden for those of your who are that far down the line.  Found Joyce Tullet nee Miller's father.

That was 4 1/2 hours work - no stopping.  Will check the Burchells out next time - it won't be long as it is only down the road!  No excuses.

Take care all - Kate xx

Excellent.  I will try to get to the office this week - no promises!  I will try.  Just checked the opening hours and there is a late night Thurs, which suits me for after work.

How much was the index if you please?

Thanks

Kate

Found Sarah Blunden with son James on 1841 census - they are Blundell but living in Buckland.  Still not been to Surrey office - not due to do this until end of Feb now.  Work commitments!  Let me know what else you find - I remain interested in this line.  Haven't been able to progress Lydia Cook's line either yet - gonna keep digging!

Well then, you have all been jolly busy!!!  So, we now have Michael's mother - Jane and her parents William and Sarah?  Wow!!  I expect I will be going to the Surrey Records Centre soon so I will be able to look at the parish records more closely.  I will let you know when!  Well done though!
