Armed Forces / Uniform Help
« on: Friday 02 September 11 19:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Please can anybody help identify the uniform worn in this photograph.  It is suppose to be a picture of my GGGGrandfather who was in the Navy but my mum and I now think it may be an army uniform from the Boer war.

Any help will be gratefully received.

Thanks
Louise

Hi yes,

That's the family I'm looking for.  We belive that the father Quentin died in New York, which forced the family back to Scotland in 1893 but as of yet have been unable to find any death details for him.  Also,  I cannot find any record of him entering America.

Hi I am trying to find any details about the following.  Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.

Death of Quentin Lyle, born 1857 in Scotland.  My family thinks that he may have died in West Haverstraw between  1889 and 1893.

Birth of John Fargie Lyle, born 1889 in New York.

Thanks
Louise

Charles Parker is described as a pensioner also (is this likely to be military related?) the witnesses are Frederick Parker & Elizabeth Chew.  (Charlottes father John Chew is a Labourer)

On the marriage certificate for John and Charlotte in 1861 John's occupation is a pensioner.  On the later census he is described as a naval pensioner.

Trying to find details of John Parker born 1822 Woolwich, Kent.  I have located him on the 71 & 81 census but would like to find any earlier details.  I know that his father was called Charles.  John is down as a Naval Pensioner on the later census. He married Charlotte Chew in 1861. I have located Charlotte and her daughter Ellen on the 1861 census.

Any help greatly appreciated
