thank you for the post christopher, i havent been doing much research lately i must get to it ,i do miss searching endless pages of possibles, the mention of a farm in ireland derry, donegal also talk of comming here to purchase another farm, john was a bricklayer to trade so it was passed down in family stories bits and pieces, i do believe my grt granda was born in ireland as to what age he was when he came here i dont know, some have said young around 8yrs some say around 19yrs id go for the latter as he retained his irish accent throughout his life,he apparently left when his parents passed on,there was a large family the rest went to usa pennsylvannia i do ramble on a bit thanks again

hi joe hope your well, have a marriage cert and death cert both have different spellings of mclaughlin also subtracting the age from marriage year and the age from death year i have two different birth years, parents names as mcdonagh/mclaughlin,good news though came across living cousins, through a second marriage of my grt grans havent come across any mclaughlin relatives though, thought id take a break from the mclaughlin search and follow another family name quinn

i dont know them nell,i only have names with a different spelling from ireland but i am considering all possibilitiesas far as the surname could have been changed as is the case in most surnames,as you quite rightly state without an exact birth date then you can follow the wrong leads, and even with a birth date you can still get it wrong as it wasnt uncommon for people to tell a lie on a marriage certificate as to what age they were
