London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Deaton Family

Hi Daisy,

Thank you for finding the 1871 census, no I did not have it and is seems to be the correct family as they were still living at No. 6 Knottisford Street, Bethnal Green in the 1881 census.  They seemed to have gained a daughter, Hannah, wonder where she was in the 1861 census.  I shall have to research her.  The name surely changes, Deaton and all the different spellings, Deacon, Denton.

Thanks again for your thoughtfulness in passing on the 1871 census.

Hi,

Charles Thomas Ellis born 1863 (Harriet's brother) was my Great Grandfather.  His daughter Alice Mary being my Grandmother.

Interesting about the gypsy link, might explain why I haven't got very far back on that particular line.  Thank you.

Does anyone know if there is a Volunteer Look Up person for the Australian Electoral Roll for 1901 - 1936 in Victoria please.

I'm looking for information on Arthur Joseph Grundy and Ruby May Grundy.

Thanking anyone in advance if they can help me.

Hi Den,

Thanks for the info on Jane Deighton, although Jane seemed to be a favourite name in my family line of Deaton's, they all seemed to be born around Bethnal Green, London.  By now you will have seen that I found my Joseph Deaton under Deacon in the 1881 census and Cougar found him in the 1861 census back under Deaton.

Thanks,

Hi Cougar,

I've just scored a hit, I've found Joseph Deaton in the 1881 census living with four of his children, all tally up with birthdates.  He is to be found under DEACON, so sorry to be such an ongoing pain, but can you please look up Joseph Deacon in the 1841 census.

I've read all the Bryant & May literature with great interest.

In the 1881 census Joseph is a Skillet Cutter and on his daughter's marriage certificate he is a Bin Wicker, anyone know what these were please?

Also Joseph Deacon married a Jane Ann Morriss in 1854 at Bethnal Green, on Elizabeth Deaton's birth certificate she is an Ann Morris, but as one of the daughters is also called Jane Ann, I think it is the correct family.

Hi dillybert,

Sorry, no to all three questions.  All I can ascertain about Joseph Deaton born in 1832 was he had three wives, Ann Morris, the mother of all his five children, Mary Ann Prince, and lastly Elizabeth Massey.

Looking at the IGI records I'm guessing that his father was born in 1796, but cannot find a wife for him.

Interestingly, I can find his son Joseph in the censuses, and his brothers, James and William, but Joseph refuses to be found.

Thanks.

Hi Cougar,

I also did a Google search on the Bryant and May Box Manufacturer, but my husband has just told me that he thinks that Joseph Deaton sold his business of box manufacturing to them, but I don't know where to look for that information.

Terrible terrible conditions in those days!
