Thank you China on two counts ... Now I know what the correct terminology is for them as well as knowing I can scan them.

Having been given the correct name allowed me to look at others and determine if they are painted portraits or ambrotypes and they are in fact ambrotypes..... Having looked at other photos on here I think I will put the one that is scratched on here at least to see what sort of a job any of you can do with it..... It's a picture of my 3x Great Grandfather and the only image we have of him so I'm keen to preserve it as best I can and hopefully look at it often.

I have just been searching Lavinia Emma Urne when I stumbled upon this thread in a Google search and I noticed the mention of a Rebecca searching for her and her father James..... I think that may have been me unless someone else called Rebecca is searching too, what a coincidence that would be..... I was on Genes Reunited many years ago and had her listed in some of my information and the fact that I was searching for her..... My membership lapsed and on top of that I had found a bit of a nasty side to Genealogy with some people so I decided to cancel my membership at GR and just fly solo.

Elsie, I'd love to know your cnnection to James....... Lavinia Emma Urne is my Great Great Grandmother. Lavinia was born 23 October, 1845 Islington London and married Thomas Shepherd in 1869, Thomas and Lavinia's child Annie Mary Shepherd is my Great Grandmather who married Arthur Thompson, Arthur and Annie's child Leonard Thomas Thompson is my Grandfather..... There is very little information on James I have come across and if anyone has been able to add any further to him I would be most grateful to have contact with them..... What I have found about the Urne family name is that it originates in Cornwall, not sure if anyone else has information or that connection too but I'd love to chat and see if we could substantiate that information.

Thank you once again Valda and thanks for the heads up on the sub districts etc. I'm still learning the geographical sides of genealogy when it comes to England, I had no idea I was going to learn so much geography.

Yes I did mean after 1837 BMD however my GGG Grandfather I know was born 1813 and christened 1814 with exact dates but I've also found a few variants of Glazbrook earlier than 1837 on other online sources but I want to go through carefully myself and see where connections are and are not. This is one part of my family that has eluded me and as such has made me even more determined to find out all I can about them. My Grandmother passed last year and she was the last one to carry the name in her line which is another reason I am so Keen to do this in depth and with great care before it is lost.

I'm hoping someone here can help me with these particular records.

I'm looking for somwhere I maybe able to purchase these records on Data CD. I know that there are two societies that have them on CD but they are in England (I'm in Australia) and no one knows where I could purchase from. I do know from message boards there are other Aussies wanting to gain access to these records.

One of the societies does lookups but I have extensive family connections in this parish and there are many variants to the name I'm wanting to search so paying someone to research for me or having someone else do the work just doesn't work for me. I kinda want to leave no stone unturned and know in my own mind that is so.

I've e-mailed so many places I felt sure to be able to help like the church only to either have the e-mails bounce or be sent in another direction, while there are Data CDs in existence no one knows where to obtain them.

I'd be ever so greatful to anyone who could shed some light.
