Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Re: Robert CAVE and Charlotte BECK at Chatteris

That sounds interesting.

I am saving up for a sub to the newspaper site.  I have a long list of people to look for so I will add the Cave Becks to the list.

Newspapers can really help to put flesh on the bones.

Cambridgeshire Completed Lookups / Re: completed CAMDEX Church Codes for Marriages

I was trying to be helpful and hoped to find a code for Chatteris to add to the list.

I have a marriage certificate for one of the marriages. The other two are from the Cambs FHS transcript for Chatteris and confirmed by GRO index.

The conclusion as you have said is that Chatteris has not been transcribed on CAMDEX yet. :)

I have searched CAMDEX for 3 marriages that took place in the church in Chatteris.

The years are 1845, 1849 and 1880.

None of these were found in CAMDEX.

Thanks very much for that info.

Joseph is my friend's ancestor (I was helping him with his research in 2007).  I will pass this new information on to him.

I should have looked at my first post in this thread!  It was the census that confused me in the first place :-)

It is a while since I helped my friend with his research.  I am sure that I would have looked at the census but I will check and if I didn't I will do so now.

I am really out of my comfort zone researching in Yorkshire :-)

My direct ancestors are Merry from Chatteris.  Jane Merry is a twig on my tree.

Jane Merry married Robert Cave in Chatteris.  Robert was the son of Matthew Cave and Margaret Everitt.  I have been told that they married 8 April 1742 in Haddenham.

Matthew Cave and Margaret had 3 children that I know of
1) William 1745
2) Robert c 1747
3) Everet (Everard) 1756

I know of the Cave Beck family.  I have not entered them into my data base yet.

Some of my Cave information came from another researcher and he got his info from the Cave Society.  This is a one name study.  I am sure that they would be able to help you.  You can contact them via the Guild of One Name Studies site

www.one-name.org/index.html

Type Cave into the box labelled "Is your surname registered"  This will eventually give you a contact email.

I hope this helps.

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: Martha WITHEY and Charles BARROW

If you look at this page on the Pickwick site

http://pickwickfamily.org/p1.htm#i20

you will see that Harriet Sainsbury married Charles Pickwick.  It is this branch of the family which changed their name from Pickwick to Sainsbury.

Eleazer left his property to his wife and she had the choice of which property to reside in.  After her death or if she decided to live in Queen Square in Bath his nephew William Eleazer Pickwick had the use of his other property. Eleazer was trying to keep his property intact so it was left to his cousin Moses Pickwick, or nephew William Eleazer Pickwick or nephew Charles Pickwick and their male heirs.  If Moses had no male heirs then that property was for the use of his niece Martha Withy and her sons. If Martha had no sons then any daughters of Moses were to have use of the property.  If Moses had no daughters then any daughters of Martha were to have use of the property.

Eleazer's sister Mrs Elizabeth Bullock was to receive an annual sum of £50 by quartely payments. After Elizabeth's death the trustees had to raise £2,000 which was to be paid to Martha Withy the daughter of Elizabeth Bullock.

In the codicil Martha is mentioned  "my niece Martha Withey now Barrow". She and her children were to take the place of Moses Pickwick and his children.  "my niece the said Martha Barrow late Withey now the wife of Charles Barrow Esquire an annuity of one hundred and fifty pounds by quarterly payments".  Martha was also to receive £2,000.

You can download Eleazer's will for a small sum of money from

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/

Type Eleazer Pickwick in the search box and it should find the will.

I hope that this helps.
