The Lighter Side / Re: Shropshire chatters
« on: Saturday 01 May 10 19:49 BST (UK)  »
I have looked on RC many times and have posted messages but never come across Shropshire chat.  If it's still up and running can I join please ?

I have paternal side - Wilkinson and Maddock/Maddocks/Maddox (not sure which spelling connections in Shrops.  My grf Harold Wilkinson was born at Ironbridge and his father, Ben, was licensee of 'The Cock Hotel'.  Ben married Margaret Maddock(?). I think Margaret had a brother who was a mayor in the area.
My paternal grandmother and her father, ?? Francis, was a poulterer who I think moved from Wolverhampton to Wellington.

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: PURSGLOVE of Whitby and Rocksby

I noticed you mentioned Unthank in your family. I think this family is from the Yorkshire area. There are a family of folk singers with this name. Google Unthank folk singers and you may be able to get in touch with them.  Today, the spelling eof the village/hamlet is Roxby. Roxby has a Norman church still in use.  I'm not from this area but have friends in the vicinity.
