Thanks everyone for the info. The name is Hannah Best as I have her marriage in Dec 1879 to Edward Perry and have her in 1881 census in Whickham and subsequent censuses. I also noted the William & Sarah Best the publicans also in the 1871 Tanfield census but they had 2 children 8yrs & 2yrs born in Grimsby. The names are definitely Best as I was using microfiche and not transcribed results.
Thanks again Bones

Completed Census Requests / Re: Death - John TATE in 1911
« on: Tuesday 16 May 06 11:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi Janette, the inquest was in both the Durham Advertiser & Durham Chronicle Friday 30th June 1911. If you send your address I could print off a copy and posted it on. The gist of the accident was that John Tate and a friend called Robert Armstrong took a raft out onto the pit pond and it captsized and both were drowned

Hi Gill, I've been using Daniel Bonar to trace my grandfather. Daniel was a Major in the Highland Light Infantry and he died in Dairsie in March 1988 (an uncle was at his funeral) Daniel's father Charles Bonar, was my g-father John Bonar's  brother.
Charles Bonar married in April 1896 to a widow Anne McCabe nee Murphy and died in 1924 aged 53yrs. Daniel was born in November 1898 and may have had a brother John.
I have found what appears to be Charles Bonnar (22yrs) & John Bonnar my g-father (20yrs) in the 1891 census as boarders with William Huskins at 22, Charles Street Greenock West.
