I hope this isnt a dumb question  ::) :-[

How do I use pigots information? There is a transcribed Pigots index online which is in the area I'm looking at and has some names on it I'm researching but how do I link them to people I have in my tree already??

And aside from this one index I've found online, would I need to get CD roms to find out more from other areas?

I just dont really know how to use it!  :-[ :-[

I thought I'd have just a quick look at the indexes myself and luckily it turned up very quickly.

March qtr 1926
Harold J Grimes married Violet L Gardner
Bristol 6a 176

With the above information you can order the marriage certificate if you wish to online at the address Tanja has given for the GRO.

Would that be the right one though? As the middle initial for Violet is different and the spelling of her name is different....

the Harold J ties in with the birth refernce mentioned earlier but I'm not very sure that Harold was born in 1902....I'll have to go and have a look at his grave stone to confirm his age when he died (it does say it on there apparently!).

I know the names and rough ages of the children....

Thanks for all the help and advice!

Happy new year everyone  :) ;) :D ;D

I have tracked down my G-Grandmother as VIOLET BESSIE GARDINER b.11/03/1907 in Bristol

I know she married Harold Grimes and they had five daughters. They lived in the Knowle area of Bristol.

Violet died in November 1993.

I have found her birth and death details but cant find her marriage (or any details about her husband!) and I dont know the names of her parents....can anyone give me any ideas of how I can get a bit further back please?

*edit* Also....apparently, she had a brother called Ernie (Ernest I guess!) I dont know anything more about him though

Cheers, Amy

well, it was Livorno on an earlier census....not sure why it would change to Leghorn on a later one!

Ok....I'm trying to find Henry Hoare b.1855...he married Martha Day in 1869 and they had one child (that I know of) Albert Hoare b.1875

On the 1881 census Martha and Albert are living in Bedminster, Bristol but no Henry....it does say that Martha is married though.

Martha has 'lodgers' Dario Scapwin and his son (I believe they are actually Dario Scapuzzi and son...later changed the name to Dart) that are logged seperately on the 1881 ensus...Martha later married Dario in 1902, in Axbridge, Somerset.  Dario had previously been married in 1873 in Bedminster, Somerset.

On 1901 there is a Scappiezi Dart living with his wife Matilda and daughter Nellie...could this be the same person as Dario? I think it's too much of a coincidence that the name is so similar and that he is from Italy also (it does say 'Leghorn, Italy' but I think that this has been entered wrong)....but the wife Matilda doesnt fit...neither does her year of birth (1844)...the Dario I'm research did have a daughter named Nellie though.

I'm waiting on the marriage certificates for both first marriages and the second marriage between Martha and Dario but I cant figure out what happened to Henry...I havent been able to find any death record for him.

If anyone can help or point me in the right direction or something that would be great :)

Sorry that this is so long!!!

cheers, amy
