Hi, I see you have transcribed burial information for John Glass. I'm curious to know if this might be the John Glass who died in 1909 at Gartloch Hospital Asylum.  The death record gives no details of his life! I'd be grateful to know if the cemetery record has any info.  Thanks!

Hello Gadget and thanks for your help in looking for the elusive Catherine Williamson.  I wonder if Wm. and Catherine were in fact properly married, as the OPR does not mention that Wm. was a widow when he married Jean Little in 1823.  Catherine is not mentioned on his death registration or on his headstone.  I did note however that Jean Little's mother was a Williamson - perhaps a connection between them - I will try to pursue that.

Thanks again,

Diana

Hello again,

I will apologize for venting my frustration at this list the other day.  I appreciate all the replies offering encouragement and help.  Although I still feel that it is confusing perhaps I will try a little harder to figure it out. Probably my difficulty comes from seldom using the site, so that each time I do I have to start from square 1.  The fact that so many of you find it very useful is encouraging so I'll keep trying.

I see that this thread has turned into a discussion about posting images - how did that happen??

Best wishes,
Diana

I have been researching my family history since 1995 and have probably used every single forum available to genealogists since then.  But I have NEVER come across a site like this - utterly confusing and completely impossible to use!!!  Nothing is clear and nothing is explained.  I cannot work out how to post a new topic on a surname page or anywhere else.  I give up!  Good luck to the rest of you.

For the record and in case anyone wants to reach me, my surname interests are mainly:
WHITE - Surrey and London, UK, 18th C
LOCKWOOD - Doncaster & area, 18th C
PRATT - Laois, Ireland, 18th & 19th C
HENDERSON, Dumfriesshire and Edinburgh, Scotland, 18th & 19th C

Dumfriesshire / WILLIAMSON & HENDERSON, Sanquhar
« on: Thursday 19 April 07 22:44 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for a marriage and/or information on the parentage of Catherine (Katherine?) WILLIAMSON, wife of William HENDERSON, which probably took place at Sanquhar, C1810. Catherine's name appears on the death reg'n of 3 of their offspring all of whom were born at Sanquhar between 1812 and 1817. She died before 1823 when William remarried to Jean LITTLE and had another six children.  Catherine is not buried in the parish churchyard.  Any advice or information appreciated.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for your reply. I had not checked for Wm's death - until now!  I did find a death in 1905 which might be his, I'll have to order the cert. to be sure.  Elena may have remarried too - unfortunately her name is one which is often misspelled, I have found her in a census return as "Eliza", but I will keep looking.  Thank again for your suggestions,

Diana

Bedfordshire / SMITH, Wm., Potton

Hello, I am hoping someone might connect to this family:  William SMITH, b. C1850, Potton, Beds. son of George Smith/Emily Elliot, married Elena WHITE in 1880.  Elena Lind White was the daughter of James and Mary White, and was born 1852 Kensington, London.  This family farmed at Potton - Horne Lane, for at least 100 yrs. - 1800 - 1901 according to the records I have found, but what happened after 1901?  Wm. and Elena had 4 daughters:  Mary, b. 1883;  Christabel, b. 1884; Grace, b. 1886; and Emily, b. 1888, and possibly other children I haven't found.  Cannot find a death record for Elena, my main search interest.  Anyone recognize this family?  Thanks for any info.
