Thanks Sandymc, that is one of the marriages I have considered for Luke Greenwood but it doesn't tie in with Ruths year of birth. Ruth Greenwood married Allan Hodgson in february 1839 thats how I found her fathers name and occupation. Regards RANDH.

Yes thank you Carole, it is his second marriage and Martha is 13yrs younger than Luke as she was born c1812. Martha would have been 9 when Ruth was born and therefore too young to be her mother so I am assuming Luke was married before, round about 1820. I have Sarah in my notes as his first wife but I don't know why as I have no evidence to prove that! I have scoured the Family Search sites but cannot find Lukes first marriage or Ruths Baptism. Some of Luke and Marthas children were Baptised at the Weslyan Methodist Chapel in Great Horton and I wondered if Ruth may have been Baptised there too.Is there any way of checking those records? I am looking for the Baptism record for Ruth Greenwood, born c1821 according to census returns. Her father was Luke Greenwood a stone mason from Rastrick born there in 1799. As far as I can gather Ruth is a child from his first marriage. His wife Martha on the 41 and 51 census is much younger than him and too young to be Ruths mother. On the 51 census Ruth says she was born in Horton near bradford. Her father Luke is living in Great Horton in the 41 and 51 census.If anyone can help I would be most grateful. Regards RANDH.

Thanks Celia, I am aware of that entry on IGI. A. Swettenham is a long way from where she says she was born eg Acton on one census and Bunbury on others, B,on her marriage certificate there is no mention of her father which leads me to assume she was illegitimate and C the earliest reference I have of her is as a female servant in Haughton near Bunbury. I think in the 1891 census her mother Sarah is living with them. Its all very confusing, I will just have to save the petrol money and make my way to Chester records office. Regards Richard.

I live a long way from Chester and hoped that somebody could look up the baptism of Amelia Harding born c1826. The parish registers of Bunbury, Acton and Nantwich have been checked but no luck. The only clue I have is one census record that says she was born in Acton. The parishes of Wrenbury and Baddiley are near by and so I thought they might be worth a look. Many thanks in anticipation, RAL.

I am looking for the marriage of Thomas Coffey and Sarah c1820. Thomas was born in Ireland c1798 and Sarah was born in Lancashire. In 1841 they were living in Manchester with six children. If anyone is able to help I would be very grateful. Thanks in anticipation, RANDH

The only Thomas Bibby on the 1851 census for cheshire, born 1850 Wallasey, parents Thomas and Catherine living in Liscard. RANDH

Both Martha Kershaws mentioned above are on IGI. The Glossop one was born 1 aug 1820 and baptised 7 sept parents John Kershaw and Nanny. The Cheshire one was born in Mottram in longdendale 1816 parents William Kershaw and Mary. Regards RANDH.
