My great-grandfather Eugene Clarke a Draper of Drogheda married 1stly Mary Ann (or Marianne) McShane in St. Audoen's RC Church, Dublin in 1857. She was daughter of the George Kingston McShane of Dungannon mentioned above. She was b. Dungannon, 1837. After just 3 years of marriage Mary Ann died (probably in childbirth) in 1860 and was buried with their infant son Eugene Francis Clarke in the Cord Cemetery, Drogheda. Another son, James Bernard Clarke, was born in 1859 who emigrated with his wife and 6 children to the United States in 1905. He died there in 1928.

A list of burials in the Cord Cemetery, Drogheda was published as ‘The Cord Cemetery’ by James Garry, published by the Old Drogheda Society in 1999.

I do not have a copy unfortunately.

Also many of the gravestones were pushed over and/or vandalised making them unreadable. However a restoration project was undertaken some years ago but I don't know if it was ever completed.

In the Civil Marriage Register of his son Eugene Clarke's marriage in 1865, I found that Bernard Clarke was a Hat Manufacturer

Dear Ruth,

I was surprised to see a reply to my post dated 2006 this morning! Many thanks for the additional information and personal recollections.

I think Con died in Q3 1954 at Leeds. Dr. Joe Clarke was still in the medical registers in 1923 but I don't have a death date.

It seems that Rita & Hilda both died in 1973, Rita in Q1 and Hilda in Q3. My father was a 1/14th beneficiary in one of their estates - I think Hilda's - I have some papers on this but can't put my hand on them at the moment. Dad bought a corner unit with the proceeds which I now have in my dining room.

I am interested in all things "Greenham"! In fact I set up the blog which gives an index of Irish Greenhams from 1600 to 1800: http://earliestgreenhamsinireland.blogspot.com/
James Dyas Greenham was my 3 x great grandfather. (I have his silver teapot with his initials!) He had 2 marriages with 8 children from the first and 3 from the second (my line).
Robert Greenham was a son from the 1st marriage to Jane E. Hornidge, christened, St. Catherine's, Dublin 4 Jul 1803. He married Jane Moon from Cupar, Fifeshire, Scotland on 3 Oct 1836 and settled in Mountrath where he was involved in the family business of cotton milling. When it failed, he emigrated with his wife and 3 of his children, arriving Melbourne, Australia 9 Mar 1857, and has living descendants in New South Wales.
Robert and Jane's children were:
* Jessie Victoria Greenham, ch. 7 Jul 1837, Clonernagh and Clonagheen Parish, Mountrath
* Jane Greenham, ch 29 Sep 1838, Clonernagh...; m. James Patton MacKenzie, Victoria, Australia, 1862, 7 children; d. Melbourne 25 Jan 1925
* Margaret Greenham, b. Mountrath, abt. 1843; d. Melbourne 4 Apr 1914
* Robert James Greenham, ch. 29 Jul 1841, Clonernagh...;mar. Catherine Florence Spicer, 1877, Victoria, Australia, 2 children; d. Sydney, NSW

Strange that the www.myfamily.com site is also down!   Mind you the family trees on myfamily are linked in to Ancestry - that might explain it.
