Hello, is anybody still out there in connection with this thread?  :)
Through the wonders of modern technology I may have stumbled across Reuben's fate. He is not a relation of mine but is distantly connected to a friend's tree.
It seems Reuben and Elizabeth went to the USA in 1850 aboard the Columbia.
They seem to have returned to England sometime.
In 1860 in Boston USA Reuben enlisted in the Regular Union Army, 1st Artillery, L Company. He is noted as born in Yorkshire and a weaver (see attachments downloaded from Family Search site). He signed on for 5 years but was discharged a Private after 4 at New Orleans.
He re-enlisted in 1864 in New Orleans but deserted in Jan 1865. He was apprehended in Jul 1865. He again deserted in Jul 1866 and was returned Nov 1866. (One of the images is very hard to read and may say that the desertion charge was dropped).
The final note reads died 13 Feb 1867 "accidentally shot in the Guard House at Ft ----- (unreadable)!

Does this help matters or does the mystery deepen lol.

It is for Alexander (Sandy) CUSHNIE who died at Perth royal Infirmary.
I have the index card from ancestry which gives a publication date of 19.2.1986. Then it says Cou 1986 Feb 21 pg 22.

Thank you in anticipation - Bronwyn

Thanks for your replies
I'll wait and see if he turns up on the pension records that are being released.
Great granddad returned from the war in one piece only to be blown up in a quarrying accident in 1924  :(

Anyone recognise the badge on the glengarry? Appears to have a dark rosette around it.
Top right is my great grandfather David Barrie b1884 Kirriemuir d1924 Dundee.
Photo is a postcard with no identifying marks on it at all.

thanks

Completed Census Requests / Re: BVRI lookup please.

Thanks for looking. I suppose he'll just have to be one of those lines that just stops. Never mind.
I had a look at the one on the LDS site, it is him (his middle name was mistranscribed as Irwin from the original - Ann was his second wife).   :)

Hoping someone may be able to find birth/baptism date or suchlike for a certain Henry Twin MAYNARD please.

He was born about 1820, possibly in Westminster BUT I do know his family was nonconformist and his birth was registered at Dr Williams Library.

I think I've found him on the 1841 census and I also have his marriage details, he and his family emigrated to Australia before the 1851 census and I have all the relevant details after that.

Thanks,
Bronwyn
