Cumberland / Routledge family. Egremont/Distington

Is anyone researching this family from Cumbria please?  I have got back to Joseph Routledge born 1812 Egremont.  His parents were James Routledge and Mary. I have two possible marriages. James Routledge to Mary Lynn 2/2/1802 Workington and James Routledge to Mary Dodgson Whitehaven 18/11/1804.Any information would be gratefully received.

I can't believe that you have found so much information on this family for me.  You really love doing research, thank you - I now have a lot more work to do to consolidate what you sent.  I'm very much an amateur in family history research and wonder what websites you use?

I didn't think about the literacy aspect of the informant on the death certificate - also might it have been a relative by marriage?  Her name was Margaret Taylor and she lived a few doors away from the Flemings in Skinner Street (from the Census in 1841 and 1851).   She was "in attendance" - so perhaps had helped to look after him?

 I'll also look at the Jackson surname as you suggest.

Thank you so very much for all this information.
I came across the entry for Robert and Mary's marriage in Low Lorton on FreeReg, but I wasn't sure if it fitted in with the rest of their family tree because most of the Flemings I have found appear to be in Cockermouth, Brigham or Whitehaven and I didn't know if this place was in the same area.  I don't know anything about Cumberland geography except for looking at a map!
I did get the death certificate of the Robert Fleming who died in 1851 but I don't think it is the same person - I'll go back and check the Census again.  The woman who was in attendance at his death wasn't a relative but someone who lived a few doors down in the same street, and as his wife died after him I would have expected her to be present.
I was also really put off by the name "Jackson" cropping up in the family unless it was a family name/surname further back - I haven't come across it before in any of the families.
I'm now going to follow this line and hope it is useful.  Many thanks once again.

Is anyone researching this family please?  I have Joseph Fleming born 1828 and brother Robert born 1834, both Cockermouth.  I cannot get back to their father Robert, as the only information I have is from Joseph's marriage certificate to Frances Hodgson on 24/7/1856, which states that his father Robert is deceased.  Robert (brother) was married after Joseph so the same certificate information will apply.

Also there are probably other children, but I haven't found them.

Are there are other ways I might find their father?

Thanks for your replies.  ALL the information I found about him has come from Ancestry, and there is an original copy of his court martial and an original copy of his Court appearance in Australia on their site.  It was noted generally with other disorderly court reports.  I have copies of these in my file.

The passenger lists details I do already have - the family went to Brazil for a short time as coffee pickers.

I'll keep looking ....

I've been looking for this person for years and recently found him in the Western Australia Court Records in Bunbury, where he was fined for disorderly conduct. I had lost track of him in England after the 1891 Census but I knew he was thrown out of the Navy after striking his commanding officer, and assumed he had gone abroad.  He was born in Chatham, Kent, in January 1875 and his parents were Julia and James Bigg, who were my paternal great-grandparents.

I think he was working as a deck hand on coastal shipping in West Australia, but I can't find anything else.  Is he in your tree, or is anybody else researching him please?

Thank you Annette7, this is really promising.  I have just been looking at the Census returns for this family, not sure that it could be the right one but hoping it would fit in somewhere!  I think his father died between the 1891 and 1901 censuses which might possibly explain why he was in the Reformatory in 1901, and his mother lived in the same road Heacham in 1901 with just one son (Robert) aged 8 with her.

I am very grateful for your help as I had been really stuck.
