Hi Gerald, nice to hear from other Mavors. It's not a common name in Scotland, the majority seem to be in Dysart, Fife and the north east of Scotland. Are your Mavor relations originally from Scotland?

Hi all, I'm not a very regular visitor to this site but have just caught up with this Smart thread. Barbara Smart was my gg grandmother, born 25 October 1853. Her siblings were;
Ann b. 11.9.1855 at Little Orkie, Parish of Kettle. (Orkie is a farm near Freuchie, they would have been in a farm cottage)
John b. 22.6.1857 @ Orkie
Helen b. 30.12.1859 @ Orkie
Donald b. 3.3.1862 @ Orkie
Mary Ann b. 29.11.1864 @ Orkie
Margaret b.31.12.1866 @ Orkie
Georgina b. 15.3.1869 @ Falkland (will need to check this)
I also have a possible sibling called Eliza born in 1862 but again, will need to check this.
I live near Edinburgh and will be visiting the Scotland's People Centre towards the end of October so I will focus on this branch of my tree and see what I can unearth. I have information on John's marriage and of course my line through Barbara, plus some other bits and pieces that may be of interest. I haven't had much luck finding Landsend, I think it was a farm but no longer exists (I was in Falkland and Freuchie today having a look around the cemeteries)

Hi JoeM, my GGG grandfather was William Smart who married Ann Grant on 24/11/1851. Someone gave me information on Williams family which I have not yet checked so it may or may not be correct, but I will pass it on to you in case it helps your research. If you find out anything else please let me know! 
I have been given Williams parents as John Smart and Barbara Lyon Hood. John was born 14/7/1875 at Collessie and Barbara 5/1/1801 at Strathmiglo. They were married 13/1/1823 at Collessie. There is no record of John's death (? pre 1855), Barbara died in 1873 in Brechin. I have John's parents as John Smart and Helen Simson, married in January 1774 in Fife. They had 3 children; John (above), Barbara b1792 Abdie, Fife and Robert b 1794 Abdie.
Barbara's parents were George Hood b 1770 @Strathmiglo and Catherine Christie b 1775 @Strathmiglo, married 12/1/1795 @ Strathmiglo. They had 2 children; Barbara (above) and Catherine b 23/10/1803 @ Strathmiglo.
As I say take this with a pinch of salt until you can verify its accuracy. Good luck!
