That's great, thank you very much for that.  Her son - my great grandfather was  James, so I'm going to investigate the first listing first I think!

Thanks again.  This my first dabble into my Scottish roots, and it's all very exciting.

Fife / Duncans Kilconquhar
« on: Friday 29 September 06 08:25 BST (UK)  »
Mt great great grandmother was born Agnes Duncan around 1838ish.  She moved to England where the census gives her birthplace as 'Kilconter, Scotland'.  As such a place doesn't seem to exist, I am guessing that the census taker didn't know how to spell Kilconquhar.  (She is given elsewhere as born in Fife - so I guess that fits in)

Does anyone have any details of or connections to Duncans in this area?

I don't know when she moved to England, but she seems to have been there by 1859 for the birth of her first child.

Many thanks

Kate

England / Re: Mucklow family - help please
« on: Thursday 21 September 06 08:01 BST (UK)  »
Thanks for your help - I was worried that I was missing something obvious, but apparently not....hmmmm

I'm wondering if her unusual middle name could be involved at all?  Harbron - I've heard that children born out of wedlock often took their father's name as a middle name.  Her father is given on her marriage certificate as Joseph Mucklow, but I'm wondering if Harbron comes into it somewhere or other...

We haven't been able to track down her birth, and the marriage certificate doesn't say where she was born, although she was living in Tynemouth by that point.

She married George Gardner Scott in 1878, and in 1881 she was living with him and their first two children at 71 Albert Street Gateshead.

Cheers

England / Mucklow family - help please
« on: Wednesday 20 September 06 20:21 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find census entries for Emma Harbron Mucklow.  She was married in 1878, so I am looking for entries before that to help track down her parents.  She was born in 1859/60 and her father's name is Joseph Mucklow.

By the time of her marriage she was living in Northumberland, but the only Mucklow's I have come across prior to this come from the midlands.

If anyone is able to find any reference to Emma or Joseph that would be great.

Thanks in advance

Many thanks for that.  The photo is great!

I was hoping for something a little more romantic than a Littlewoods, but I guess that's family history for you  ;D

Durham / Wagon Inn, Gateshead

Does anybody have any information about the Wagon Inn, Gateshead?  My Great Great Grandmother's brother-in-law was Innkeeper there according to the 1881 census.

The address is given as 216 High Street, Gateshead.

Does anyone know if this still exists?

I have found reference of a Waggon Inn on Galloping Green Road, but have no idea if it could be the same one.

Any info. would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Durham / Mackin / Liddell/Liddle / Burns / Quinn
« on: Saturday 09 September 06 19:55 BST (UK)  »
I'm looking for Mackins and Liddells in the Gateshead area.  The Mackins - Catharine married James Quinn (1867), Mary Ann married Patrick Burns (1863) and Elizabeth married James Liddell (1877).  I'd love to know about any more siblings, or any earlier census entires.

Would be great to hear from anyone looking in the same area.

I'm researching Liddell / Liddle and Mackins in and around the Alnwick and Gateshead areas.  My direct ancestors are James Liddell and Elizabeth Mackin, but we also have several Theodosias - one in each generation, and would love to hear from anyone else who has come across these names in this area.

Thanks
