Hi Georgina.  Unfortunately, your email address was removed by the moderator.  Seems you need to make one more post, then we can PM each other and share email addresses.

It would be great to swap email addresses, because I have something
EXCITING
to tell you!
 ;D

The Joseph Richard(s) you seek, is my Gt, Gt, Grandfather!!

The reason you can't find Josephs marriage to Mary Ann LEE is because she was a gypsy!  Yes, he seems to have moved from Wales up to Tudhoe Grange near Spennymoor, County Durham, and married Mary Ann LEE along the way.  LEE is a common gypsy name (as in Mary Rose LEE the fortune teller(s)).  Mary Anns sister was Sarah, a well known fortune teller in York.

Joseph and mary Ann had many children -
DAVID RICHARDS, b. 1868, (as Richard),
SARAH RICHARDS, b. 1869, Bishop Auckland
JOSEPH RICHARDS (my great Grandfather), b. 9 July 1871, Tudhoe Grange, Co. Durham
THOMAS RICHARDS, b. 1874, Stockton
JOHN RICHARDS, b. 1874, Stockton
PRISCILLA RICHARDS, b. Abt. 1876; d. 1907, North Bierley
MATILDA RICHARDS, b. 29 December 1878, Stockton(8 Rupert St)  9 10a/56; d. 1971, Teeside (D 1971)
BENJAMIN RICHARDS, b. 25 October 1880, Auckland 10a/186  D1880.
BEATRICE RICHARDS

Please send me your email address! :-)

Hi Georgina, and thank you for your kind offer.  I am indeed interested in any information you have on my RICHARDS / RICHARD ancestry!

The trail ran cold, and I never did discover a birth place for David or Sarah - I'm hoping your post might re-ignite my passion for family history, so i can blow the dust off my files and begin tracing my RICHARDS line back further.

Please feel free to get back in touch with any information you have.  Kindest Regards. Curtis. x  ;)

Thanks Welshjo, and to everyone who has helped with this enquiry - very much appreciated.  I'll do that - request a copy of the PR entry, good idea.  Thanks again, Curtis.

Carmarthenshire Completed Requests / Re: Cymbyr Farm, Talley, Carmarthenshire
« on: Friday 08 September 06 18:51 BST (UK)  »
Hello Nigel, many thanks for your reply, and for your kind offer of help - that would be great.

I've had someone else look at the Llangyfelach records, and they found no mention of any of the RICHARDS children apparently born there (as per the 1851 census) which has me scratching my head.

You mention Carmarthenshire in your reply, as being the place your Richards came from.

In the 1851 census, my David Richards had passed away, leaving Sarah a widow.  I note though that she puts her place of birth as....Carmarthenshire.

In 1841, when both David and Sarah were both alive, although their children are all listed as being born in Glamorganshire ('YES' in the county box), both parents say they were born outside of Glamorganshire ('NO@ in the county box).  We now know Sarah Davies was born in Carmarthenshire - so DID DAVID RICHARDS ALSO HAIL FROM CARMARTHENSHIRE?

This is a possibilty I've yet to explore.

I don't know what records you have for Carmarthenshire, nor how easy they are to do look-ups, but the logical searches from here would be:

1) Birth of Sarah Davies in Carmarthenshire c.1796 (although I admit this might throw up a number of candidates)

2) Birth of a David Richards in Carmarthenshire c.1796 (although again, I admit this might throw up a number of candidates)

3) Finally, the marriage of Sarah Davies to David Richards prior to 1826 in Carmarthenshire, where both bride and groom could match the age for being born c.1796. from 1) & 2) above.

If you have any such notes, records, access to CDs or Fiche, or know someone who has, or can point me in the direction of a stockist etc - ANY HELP, AS ALWAYS, is genuinely appreciated...

Thanks very much Karren.  Your help has been very much appreciated.

I think my next step to is to look for Sarah Davies birth over in Carmarthen, in the hope that she married in the same parish (and in the hope that those records mention where David Richards came from).  I've just been looking online, and there seems an endless amount of parishes to search for in Carmarthen!!

I'm currently trying to locate any kind of CD or Fiche index or transcript for Carmarthen births and/or marriages to begin this task.

Thanks again for your help.

Carmarthenshire Lookup Requests / RICHARDS & DAVIES - Carmarthen Births Index?
« on: Friday 08 September 06 18:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello!  Please bear with me, as I am new to the list!  Hope my question is not too silly!  :-[

Working from the only lead I have, I'm wondering if there is some kind of births & marriages index on CD ROM OR fICHE for Carmarthen?

I have a Sarah Richards (nee Davies) born around 1796, who states in the 1851 census that she was born in Carmarthen (CMN).

I'm wondering if anyone has the means to look this up (if there IS such a CD ROM or index fiche out there).

Birth of Sarah Davies in 1796 in Carmarthen.

My aim would be to get directed to the parish she was born in, to see if she later married David Richards in the same parish.  He'd died by the 1851 census, and in 1841 simply states he was born outside of Glamorgan.  If I find their marriage, then I might find both Davies ancetors and a record of which parish David Richards came from.  Any help greatly appreciated!

Many Thanks

Curtis

Thanks Gareth - that's great.  Is the CD a transcript of the original PR?  Just wondering if more information would be in the actual PR or not?  I wonder if I can order a copy online?

Hello.  I'm wondering if anyone out there has a transcript, or CD for Merthyr Tydfils Parish register?

I have a conflicting IGI entry I'd like confirming, for which I would like to obtain a copy of the actual page of the PR or transcript if at all possible?

The IGI entry is for the marriage of a David Richards and Sarah Davies.

Two IGO entries list the marriage as 03 NOV 1823   Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales, while a third lists it as 03 NOV 1825 Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales!  Two years later!

Has anyone found the Merthyr Tydfil PRs available online?  Or on CD?

Does anyone out there have the means to check this one out?

The ultimate desire would be to find a snippet of information out about these people (if they were both from this parish, or if David has a trade mentioned as sometimes happens, or he is listed as coming from a neighbouring parish etc).

Any help, greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Curtis

Thanks ever so much Karren and Rhys.

Karren - The Elizabeth you mention was born in 1826 to David and Sarah, but I made a typo in the first posting, it should have read Henry born c.1826 and Elizabeth born c.1829. Sorry.  Actual census reads as follows:

Rhys - thanks for the note on Richard v Richards.  I did have the 1851 entry above, but not the original (ordered a CD today containing that record).

Coming back to this from a long break, I don't recall pursuing the birth of Sarah Davies (Sarh Richards birth name) in Carmarthen.  A big enough county and a common enough surname, but maybe if I locate the parish she grew up in, I might find her marriage in that PR to David Richards - which might mention which parish he is from!  Lots of 'mights' and 'maybe's but worth a try I think? I shall pursue that line of enquiry ASAP.

Thanks again to both of you.

Is it just me, or is it a bit odd that the 1851 census clearly states the kids were born in GLA LLANGYFELACH, yet no record of their births are in those PRs???
