Hi Gentian.
My children are descendants of John Thorn/Mary Bishop.
I'm just getting back into some family research before I go back to the UK, specifically to Marston Bigott to find out some facts about John's death. Have you made any progress in your search?
I don't know if you first posted in 2017 or early - but I hope you are still on RootsChat.
Regards,

Hi MalNZ. Your post has highlighted the confusion I encountered when I first started my family research.

The clue is; there is a Waimea South and a Waimea West.
The Waimea south family is not related to the Waimea West family as far as I know.
I haven't found any link at all - maybe back in England but not discovered yet.
It was very confusing initially because there were common names in both families.

Thomas, William and Joseph in Waimea West were all blacksmiths.
When William moved to Havelock, (Marlborough District) he became a General Store Keeper and at one time Chairman of the Local Council.

Ernest Oliver PRICE, would probably have been the son of the Waimea South Joseph because the Waimea West Joseph PRICE married Mary Jane MILLARD.

I can see that.
With some of my families, I have hit the proverbial brick wall so it would be fantastic to be able to try for a few breakthroughs.

Two posts - not a problem.

Interesting coincidence. I haven't done any genealogy in ages so last night I thought Iwould start to get my files updated on-line. I was up till 2.00am (as you do) specifically researching for Thomas Prices's parents.
I got up this morning and did some googling and this site came up with the link.

I had already registered as a member some time ago.
I don't know how I managed to not get the site listed in my Favourites.

Hi Jessies Mum, I am a g.g grandaughter of Thomas and Mary Ann Price (Brown) through their first child William, who was born in July in Liverpool in 1842, just before they emigrated on the "Indus" in December 1842 - Arriving in Nelson in Feb. 1843.
Thomas and Mary Ann were married in Derby in 1840 and appear in the 1841 census.
Joseph (and the rest of their children) was born in Waimea West, NZ. I have Joseph recorded as being born in 1848.
I haven't really delved into Joseph's info but I am in contact with two men here in Nelson who are descended from Joseph. (I'm pretty sure)
Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Cheers
Diane
