No I don't know if they did stay. Several other members of the family did migrate to Australia and we know of one who went to the USA. have not been able to find them on the immigration lists to either country so I am sort of caught at the present time. Thanks for your advice

Thank you for your help. Interesting but possibly not right but have done a search on the census and can't find anything better. James was 23 when married in 1852, and it lists him living in Portglenone and that he was a Shopkeeper...obviously could have changed occupations. Jane was 28 when married and she was also a shopkeeper. I don't have any other information, other than that his father was John Smyth of Galgorm Parks and his mother was Jane Smyth (nee wright)

Antrim / William Smyth of Portglenone

Does anyone have any info on William James Smyth, who lived in Portglenone. He married Eliza Craig in Nov 1846. They had at least 6 children, and at least 4 of them came to Australia. William was a business man - was agent for White Star shipping, had some connection with an explosives business, was a breeder and shower of dogs at shows around Ireland. He died in 1888 and is buried in the family grave at Broughshane.

Does anyone have any more information please?

I am trying to find some details on a Thomas S Smyth. He was the son of Jane Wright and John Smyth. He has at least one sibling a John Wright Smyth who was born in Ballymena in 1836. I know Thomas was born in Ireland and presume it was around the Ballymena area. At some stage he migrated to the USA where he married a Nellie Shields in 1883. She was originally from Lancashire, England. Does anyone have any other information.

Thank you Colette. Where did you get your information from. It may well have been that some of the family went to US while my ancestor came to Australia. Do you have any other information?
