Devon / Re: Devon County Lunatic asylum

Devon Records Office hold some of the records for Devon Lunatic Asylum. I paid the Archivist to research and was sent copies of the records held. They show the date of admission, next of kin, patient records + date of death, but do not show burial place.
I do not know if some of the records would show burial place.

Just read your message Stella. I originally found the possible entry on 1911 census showing initial only. I then phoned Devon Record Office who confirmed the first name. It was only then that I paid the services of the Archivist to search and send me copies of the records held. If you have found a relative on the 1911 it is well worth a phone call at least to confirm a name.

Hi LizK
I had a relative who died in Devon County Asylum in 1917. I paid the Archivist at Devon Record Office to do a search (1 hour) and was provided with copies of the records held. There is quite a bit of detail in these records including admission details, but I understand they are only obtainable by using the services of the Archivist.
Before paying the search fee I had spoken on the phone to DRO, giving them details of the person and timescale that I was researching. They were most helpful.

Devon / Re: HELP! I'm in the 'DARK'!!!

Hi MMMandy & Trees
Firstly Mandy, I am sorry but I can not find anything for you at the moment, except I can confirm that Joseph & Mary Dark(nee Pooley) did Not have a son called Joseph.
I wish you luck with you DARK research- they really are a confusing lot because of the common usage of names. After 10 years I am still trying to work out some of the relationships
I also apologise for having hijacked your posting - I have sent a PM to Trees with the info on Mary Dark.

Hi Milly Molly Mandy
I have only just seen your message - I have done quite a bit of research into the North Devon Dark's. I will have a look through my notes to see if I can help . This  may take a couple of days because 'Ann & Joseph' are not  uncommon names in the Dark Families

I have gathered a lot of information on the Devon Dark Families - most of it is rather confusing because the 'offspring' of different branches seem to have the same given names.
What info do you need on Mary Dark - is it the childrens names etc?

Thank you Lemon
I will try contacting them to see if they have any records for early 1900's.
