Thank you.
Louisa and her dad I believe were travellers, which is why I initially posted on the travellers forum.

Thank you.
We have traced Louisa, buit think we have just looked at John for too long, as we couldn't see any connecting information.  We have not been able to find Louisa/Lucy, as she was also known in the 1891 census, and she had left her children with her father (I believe).

Hello.
I am looking for information on a John Richard Masters, who married Louisa Hyman in 1885.  Louisa married at least twice, and during the late 1890's, changed  hers and her children's names to James' although I  cannot find a James marriage for her.  She married John Richard Masters, then in 1900 Married a Thomas Inglis.  (she was still a Masters when she married Thomas)
I cannot find any birth records for John, although one of her children has their father's name as John James on their marriage certificate, yet on their baptism record it was someone different.
I have found an Old Bailey document for a John Masters in 1893, where he had an alternative name of Edward Lowther, although I had not come across this name before, only John Masters and John James.
Is anyone able to shed any light on any of the jumbled message I have left for you.
Thanks

Hello AnnMartin
I have been researching my brother in law's family and his grandfather was William Hyman (born about 1881 in Wandsworth) and from what I can see he is the William Hyman brother of Ellen Hyman (James).  William married Mary Cogan and their daughter was my brother in law's mother, Mary.  He was always confused about his birth certificate because his mother's maiden name on it was James - even though he thought her maiden name was Mary Hyman.  I can see why you are confused as I came to a standstill trying to find out more about William Hyman's family.  In 1891 they are living at 18 Fentons Cottages, Garratt Lane and in 1901 the childrens' names are more or less the same but the address is now 18 Jubilee Cottages, Garratt Lane.  Whereas John Hyman and Fanny were the parents in 1891 it is Louisa in 1901.  It is all very muddled and the question is if and why did they change their name to James.  Just thought I'd let you know that I have a similar enigma.
Kind regards  :) :)
Hello
Thank you so much for your message.
firstly, just wow!  I have been trying to find out information from estranged family members, who are either harbouring a  huge secret, or just do not know any answers to my questions.
I have done quite a lot of research since this post, and believe I may have found more name changes, and am happy to share any information I have with you.
I will check this against my information later, but it does sound right.  I have also sent you a message.
Kind regards
Ann

Ahh sorry yes.
I believe Louisa Hyman was born in 1862, although this has not been confirmed.  Somewhere in London I assume.  Her daughter Ellen was born 26 June 1883 at Union Infirmary in Battersea.  Mother named as Louisa Hyman.
Ellen Hyman (James)  married Benjamin Hewlett on October 29th 1900.  Everything else is just what I have been told by family members, that is not confirmed.  I have been unable to trace Louisa, althugh there are a couple of options on Ancestry.
I was told that Louisa married John Richard Masters in 1885, and I have found this marriage on Ancestry.  She also supposedly married John James in Oct 1888, but I cannot find any evidence of this at all.  I have also been told that she married Thomas Inglis on 7th May 1900, but she signed herself as Louise James on her daughters marriage certificate in October of the same year.
I am by no means a beginner to family research, but it's safe to say, I am totally stuck.  I think I have looked at this family for so long, that I am now so confused.
I have ordered Ellen's full birth certificate to see if it gives any more information that the PDF copy, but I am very impatient. and thought I would see if anyone has come across this family in their searches.  I am grateful for any help anyone can give me.

Hello
I have been tracing my paternal ancestry for some time, and am completely stuck.  My great great grandmother was Ellen Hyman (although she was Ellen James on her marriage certificate).  her mother was Louisa Hyman, but I cannot find any trace of her birth, but it is believed that somewhere along the lines, names were changed.  I also believe they were travellers.
Ellen's dad was recorded as John James on her marriage certificate, although there was no father recorded on her birth certificate, but I believe her dad may have been a married traveller who went by the name of William Michael Kelly.
If any of this sounds familiar to anybody, I would love to hear from you.
I hvae asked several members of the family, who do not know a lot, or if they do, are not giving anything away.
