Hello John

Thanks for this - very exciting for me.  I did know of Rebecca Bateman but haven't ever seen that will.   Many thanks.

If you stumble across anything else Angliss in your travels I would be very interested.   Equally I will let you know if I find anything of use apropos the Batemans. I think I may have details of Rebecca and James's children (I think she married James - will check).

Thanks again

Dear Andrea

Thanks for your reply.  The one name study person is yours truly.  I have been looking through LDS records but haven't found anything convincing yet.  Will keep struggling and will think about hearth tax/militia lists as suggested.

Best Wishes

Hello Sylvia

My Adkins is Martha Adkins/Atkins who married William Cramp Angliss at St Lawrence, Foleshill in 1844.   More than that I don't know but I have noticed that Atkins and Adkins are virtually interchangeable and there are lots in Coventry.  Could we share a smidge of DNA do you think?

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Hampshire Connections with Coventry?
« on: Friday 10 June 05 22:15 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know if there was historically any connection with the East Meon/Kingsclere/Tadley area and Coventry? :)  My ancestors were fellmongers in Coventry from the late 18th century but I have a hunch they originally came from Hampshire and Berkshire as this is where all the earlier Anglisses are located.  I wondered if there was a business reason for the move to Coventry (if this is the case obviously) perhaps to do with trade in wool, cattle etc.  Clutching at straws here really.

Many Thanks

Warwickshire / How can I find out more about Coventry marriage?
« on: Friday 10 June 05 22:09 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out more about the marriage of my ancestors James Angliss and Mary Burnett.  I know from IGI that they were married at St Johns, Coventry in 1775.   The people at Coventry Archive looked the marriage up for me but couldn't give me any more info that I have already.  I'm particularly keen to find out more as James and Mary are my brickwall.  I want to know where James in particular was born and to whom.  I know a lot about James but not these two all important facts.  Can any more experienced family researchers in Warwickshire/Coventry area give me some advice?

Thanks

I have Adkins of Coventry in my family tree.  Don't know if this is just another spelling of Atkins or not.  There were certainly watchmakers among them although I imagine most Coventry families would have had some watchmakers.

Also a lot of my Coventry Angliss relatives ended up in Clerkenwell too although in their case mostly in the meat trade or as fellmongers/tanners.  Is there some kind of historical connection between Coventry and Clerkenwell do you think?

Ireland / The Cairo Gang
« on: Thursday 20 January 05 09:41 GMT (UK)  »
I am interested in finding out more about the members of Cairo Gang.  They were British intelligence offices sent to Ireland to infiltrate the IRA and kill or capture Michael Collins.  Collins managed to get a photo of them in which they are all numbered and presumably named.  On the 21st  November 1920 they were all tracked down and killed.   The day became known as Bloody Sunday.

I have seen the famous photo on the web and in books but have never seen a list of the names.  I have family history reasons for wanting to know this.  Interesting situation for me as my own family history is possibly partly Irish and I am married into an Irish family but I do have potentially have a connection with a member of the Cairo Gang.  Any info gratefully accepted.

Many Thanks

Jenny

Hello Rootchat

I have traced the family in Warwickshire back to 1750s but feel sure there is a connection with Anglisses in Berkshire and would like to find out more.

Best Wishes
