Ross & Cromarty / Re: George MacKenzie and Catharine Mactavish, Contin
« on: Thursday 03 May 18 09:48 BST (UK)  »
Sorry for delay in replying, computer problem! My father John Bowie McKenzie and Nan Russell were cousins and I remember going to Broom of Moy as a youngster to visit. My grandparents lived at Logiebuchany on the Darnaway estate.
Re George and Catherine I also have no info about them except from their family 8 in number. Also from John and Ann line. Could not find marriage or death for George and Catharine, strange but will try again. Have not looked for some time.
Best wishes, keep in touch.

My great grandmother was Ann(e) Buie/Bowie from Dyke, Morayshire. The spelling for her and siblings was Buie until mid 1860s and then Bowie. It seems to depend on who was recording the information, as phonetically they are the same.

The following website gives the info about the estate:
http://www.avoch.org/content/rosehaugh.
My wife grew up for a short while on the estate in the 1940s when Mrs Fletcher was in the big house.

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
His name was Alexander Milne Cairns, born in Perthshire in 1883. In 1911 census is a butler living in London, and sailed on Titanic as a manservant to William Ernest Carter of Philadelphia but did not survive.
Any info welcome!

Angus (Forfarshire) / Re: Sloggie -Montrose

Hi
I have some info on a strand of the Sloggies.
My wife's maternal grandfather's second wife was Mabel Lavinia Chalmers Sloggie; her father was James Alexander Sloggie married to Lavinia Chalmers. His father was William Sloggie married to Jane Kinnear and then Ann Barclay. William's father was Alexander Sloggie married to Christian Smith on 27 Mar 1814.
As it is an unusual name it is easier to follow than some. Hope this helps in adding some information
regards

Can any one help. I am looking for information on Nan Russell who lived in Broom of Moy in the late 1940s and early 1950s. She was, I think, a relation of my father and I remember going to visit in the late 40s but I am not sure of the relationship. Any help gratefully received.
