The Lighter Side / Re: Skeletons in the closet anyone?
« on: Thursday 12 March 15 22:52 GMT (UK)  »
Husband hit his wife over the head with a lump hammer from which she died while she was in bed  He legged it over the fields to the next town and hung himself from a tree on farmland. Sad part was that a young child was left in the house alone

Technical Help / Re: Samsung mobile phone
« on: Sunday 11 January 15 23:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Redroger

Dau had no problem with the repair as it worked fine when she managed to get it back. They give her a time when it would be ready but when she went to pick it up it wasn't and it took three visits before she managed to get it back. Knowing her someone somewhere is getting a blasting :)

Leaving OH now to decide what he is going to do about his own phone

Thanks
Mo

Apologies for the late reply, thank you for the suggestions

roopat blowing on Sim card didn't work

aghadowey Oh has tried recharging but it continually switches off and on every few seconds

Redroger Our dau had issues with the nearest Samsong shop to us and does not recommend it, it wasn't an expensive phone so it may be cheaper to get another one

Thanks again

The Common Room / Re: Poverty in the 1960's and 1970's

What's particularly unpleasant is that the Daily Mail wants its readers to think that there is no real poverty in the UK today, and that there aren't any children growing up in substandard housing with an inadequate diet, because being poor in Britain in 2014 means "just not having the latest PlayStation or trendy trainers"  ::)

So true, some people haven't a clue or just don't care

Lancashire / Re: Industrial school admission can someone explain this please?
« on: Wednesday 24 September 14 20:50 BST (UK)  »
It would be interesting to know what 'standard' the kids had to reach to be level !V, V etc.  Doesn't it sound horribly similar to the current system of Key Stage this & that??
I'm glad your lad got through the system of the day intact, Joan - gives us beleaguered parents hope! My youngest is regularly flagged up for 'intervention' because he 'doesn't pay attention and often sits staring out of the window'. Sound to me as if he's bored but what do I know, I'm only his mother  >:(

Sorry for off-topic rant - I feel better now!

 :) Barbara

I have a child who was also "flagged up" at school and in there chosen profession they have come top in the UK this year so don't give up hope.

Back to topic FindMyPast has released some School Records including Lancashire and Cheshire this week
