Ayrshire / Re: Gibson and Guy Families Beith

Hello all. Thanks for the replies, I should have put it slightly better. I already have all the records (birth, marriage, death, Census) and I am a member of Scotland’s People. I am looking for more local history. For example I have found a list of local tradesmen, and Robert Guy and Gi son are on that on Bundswynd. My visit is not to find their official records, but to see where they lived, look for gravestones and find local archives of history. Thank you.

The Lighter Side / Re: Researching Family History Can Be So Tragic
« on: Monday 02 February 26 10:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have found some sad things too, early deaths, extreme poverty, orphaned children. It has helped me to understand what life was like for our ancestors at a time with no safety net. (Financial or health wise). The fate of the women is a particular interest of mine, for example when they resorted to prostitution to feed their families. Many men and women seem to have remarried in order to safeguard their children after a parent dies.  I am following several lines of enquiry into resourceful women in my family.

Ayrshire / Gibson and Guy Families Beith
« on: Monday 02 February 26 10:33 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all, I have just joined, although I have been researching for a long time. My paternal 2 x Great Grandparents were born in Beith: James Gibson (1829 - 1908) and Mary Guy (1835-1912). Both their fathers were weavers. They moved to Greenock Renfewshire. The family then left by ship, first to Hull, then settled in Hebburn. The family then worked in the shipping industry in Tyneside. I am hoping to visit Beith to look for local records.
