I know these posts were a long time ago, but is there any more info anyone has found re John Devoto/Devote b1847 in Manchester?

Hello Boozy.bird

Thanks I'd be really interested to find out your information.

My family settled in Pembrokeshire, and I know of  a few families all in the south of England except a family that lived in Manchester who my gran said they used to visit.   So I assume they were family as it must have been a long trip to make back in the 20's.   Have no proof though whatsoever.

What I have learned is Devote was most likely Devoto in it's original Italian form.

Thanks

Emma's maiden name was Royle though it's written in a few places as Royal or even Hoyle. Have you any more info on John Devoto/Devote, I am struggling to find any info before his marriage and having his children?

I am not sure how we are related to the Manchester family as the head John Devote born Italy is not a son of Jacob so does not fit into our tree.   We have a John Devote born 1844 Jacob's first son,  I have the marriage cert of John Devote Manchester and he puts his father down as Andrew and married an Emma Royle.

I have a John Devote on my tree, the birth date doesn't quite match up but he did marry an Emma. From my Ancestry 'Lifestory':

John Devote was born in 1847 in Italy. He had three daughters with Emma Devote between 1877 and 1880. He died on June 6, 1933, in Manchester, Lancashire, England, at the age of 86.

I don't know Emma's maiden name or his parent's names. Do you think it could still be the same person? He was an ice cream vendor, then delicatessen owner and his wife was an umbrella maker.

Hi Roberto13,

I hope you see this but I am doing some digging into my Italian heritage and have found that John/Giovanni Devote/Devoto is my great, great, great grandfather. Have you found any other info since your previous messages? It would be great to chat about it
