Thanks so much for the confirmation of Halstead House.  I'm afraid that I still have been unable to confirm the existence of Charles Farrin, reportedly, the early owner.  At least I know that some of the information in the family records is accurate.  Thanks again from Canada

Thanks Assa and Linell
I'll keep plodding away.  All I know for sure is that my great grandfather was Thomas Hill, born 1861 son of Henry Hill and Catherine Farmer Webb.  In the 1881 census he is living with Hannah and John Nichols and lists his birth place as Bilston.  He married in Hednesford in 1882 to Harriet Priscilla Devey and immigrated to Canada in 1886.  Henry & Catherine had a large family so I'm sure there are other descendents out there.

I have been struggling with my Hill ancestors for many years.  I doubt that there is a connection with yours, (too common a name) but my Thomas Hill ancestor was born in late 1780 or 90s.  He married Hannah ?.  His son Henry born abt. 1831 was my 2x g. grandfather.  In 1851 census, Hannah is found in Birmingham with son Henry.  He later relocated to Bilston, Staffs. marrying 16 Aug 1859 to Catharine Farmer Webb.  Would love to located some early history on this family.

Kent Lookup Requests / Jane Elizabeth Farrin
« on: Monday 28 January 08 19:37 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for any information on Jane Elizabeth Farrin b. abt. 1800 in Greenwich, Kent.  She was the daughter of Charles Farrin.  She married  11 May 1823 at St. Leonards, Shoreditch to James Ettridge, and relocated to Cheshunt, Herts.  Any information about the Farrin family of Kent would be greatly appreciated.  They are rumored to be a sea-faring family.

Hello Mary:  I'm afraid that I really don't have much information on the Ballard (not Bullard) family that is connected with my ancestors.  What I have is:  Elizabeth Ballard, daughter of William and Ann Ballard, born 1807 Cheshunt, Christened 7 Apr 1807, died ABT 1867 - married BEF 1824 to George Venables b. 1805 Cheshunt, Christened 17 Nov 1805, died 1849, son of James and Sarah Venables.  They had 11 children.  If this is of any use to you, please let me know.  I can give you the names of their children with birth dates, if you require.  I know that Ballard and Bullard are very close, but I am certain of the "Ballard" spelling in my family.  Hope this is some help to you.

Hi again Lin:  Thanks for the info.  It corresponds with mine excepting Charles b. 1838 that I have listed as a son of William and Charlotte.  I know that this sounds stupid, but........who are William and Mary?  Is there a connection here?  James (according to the census) was born in 1781.  If this is correct, then that elimates James Venables and Jane Mold, married 1783, but I guess, not entirely.  It has happened.
Frances Venables (my great grandmother) had 15 children- 1 died at a year old.  All but 1 (David) immigrated to Canada, scattering all over the country.  Some remained in the Newbrunswick region.  There are many descendents.  My maiden name was Adams.
Hollie is connected to me through Richard Venables who married Sally Burgess who was the sister to my great grandmother on my grandmother's side.  Get that! A double connection.  And you think you're confused.  I did have your email address, but can't locate it, so will try to attach photo of David and Sarah Ettridge.  Sorry, my intentions were good, but I can't figure it out.  I'll try and find your address.  If you don't get it, you'll know I didn't find it.  My desk is in shambles.

Hi Lin:  I would love to have George and William's children to compare with what I have.  Also any other children you may have floating around.  You're right about Elizabeth having a tough life.  She was left a widow with a huge family at a very early age.  I have also found her with 2 grand daughters - Ellen and Emily - aged 1 and 2, in 1851, but they disappear after that.  As they were Venables, they must have been the children of one of the sons, and what happened to them after this is a mystery.  I'm still looking, but not finding.  Of course, her son David, I know about, since he is my direct ancestor.  I even have his picture, if you're interested.  Well, back at it.  Nice to know that I'm not the only one pulling out my hair.....Anne

Hi Lin:  I have been doing exactly as you, and keep going around and around.  I do agree that James and Sarah are the more likely parents of your William and my George.  I also discovered Charlotte's daughter Caroline, some time ago.  I'm no sure if Charlotte was married before William or if Caroline was illegimate.  Each branch of every Venable family seems to have kids of the same name which makes it even harder to research.  Do you have a date of death for William?  I have him living with son Benjamin & Elizabeth in 1881 at Pan Tile Hall.  Also, you may have noticed a grandchild, William Hills b. 1854 living with William & Charlotte in 1861.  This would be the son of a married daughter (I assume) - perhaps Jane.  I haven't really got that far yet.  Anyway, thanks for getting in touch.  I'll keep on digging at this end.

Thanks for your reply Lin.  It is confusing with so many names the same in the same family.  Let me know if you find the right person, so I can change my info.  I can't seem to find any info on the Ettridges other than James and Jane Farrin Ettridge.  There is a big brick wall to get any further back.  Other descendents have been researching these same people and have met that same wall.  Happy hunting.........
