Hi I have this man also in my family tree (not a direct relative). He is my 2nd great grand uncle - I am descended from one of his brothers. This brother was also a very bad man (my grandad always told me he hated his grandad). My whole branch of the family emigrated to Canada and then came back again to Retford. There were about 30+ of them who went to Canada but I can't find Thomas and Florence on the list.
Anyway, Thomas's parents were John Bradley (b 1829 in Eaton) and Sarah Nettleship (1834-1918 in Upton).
They had the following children:
George Bradley
1852–1930
Emily Bradley
1854–Deceased
Maria Bradley
1856–Deceased
John Bradley
1858–Deceased
William Bradley
1865–Deceased
Annie Bradley
1866–Deceased
Thomas Bradley
1871–1875
Martha Bradley
1874–1950
Mary Bradley
1880–Deceased
Thomas Bradley
1884-1949
Florence and Thomas got married in 1907. Given that Doris their daughter was born in the last quarter of 1907 she followed quickly after the marriage (could it have been a shotgun wedding?). I have the following as children of Thomas and Florence. But because they're not my direct ancestors, I haven't got as much detail as I have for direct ancestors.
Doris Bradley
1907–Deceased
Ivy Bradley
1909–Deceased
Lily Bradley
1911–Deceased
May Bradley
1912–Deceased
Violet Bradley
1914–Deceased
Mona Bradley
1916–Deceased
I also couldn't find a death date for Florence but I had a query in my notes that a Florrie/Florence Bradley died in 1944 and was estimated to have been born around 1880. I wondered if that was the right one but I haven't checked it because I'm off on another branch for now. Women often lied about their ages - either because they were much older than their spouse or because they were too young to get married. So as you probably already know you have to take a bit of give or take on birth dates. My own grandad had a completely made up birthdate because his parents forgot to register him and didn't want to get into trouble so his official birth date is not his real one. What were people in the olden days like eh?
Hope that helps you.
Also be careful as there is more than one Thomas Bradley in this area - it was a common name - and more than one Florence/Florrie Bradley. The Bradley family was huge and Thomas was a family name. Note that John and Sarah had another child called Thomas who died and they recycled the name.
Another hint - you can search Retford Cemetery for graves. I did that for you and I found there was a Thomas Bradley who was buried in 1949. His grave ID is 49,427.00 FID 34747 Plot 95
There is no Florence Bradley buried in the cemetery according to the search and it is not on his record. But from experience I've discovered that the second person buried in the grave often doesn't come up in their fairly crappy search capabilities. If you really are stuck and can't get there, I'll have a look the next time I go to see my grandparents and see if I can find the gravestone as there might be more clues on that - for example a wife buried there or indication of where she is buried. Here's the link to the grave search in case it helps you or others. But remember Retford cemetery only opened in 1854 so if your ancestors died before then they'd be in a church cemetery not in this one.
