The Lighter Side / Re: Doubting family stories
« on: Sunday 17 August 25 03:56 BST (UK)  »
There are usually grains of truth in family stories. My mother collected the rememberances of "the maiden aunts" in the late 1940s 50s and wrote up a document. It is largely a collection of (untruthful) social pretensions and inaccuracies but contains enough factual detail to be of some assistance in gettting to the truth. Such histories also omit the juicy and interesting bits like relatives who ended up in an asylum, runaway brides etc.

I am connected to the Lucas family listed (John, Ann and 2 youngsters plus two older daughters) so I have looked though the available documentation and have not found any mention of landing in Hobart. The migrants on the Parland were assisted immigrants so unlikely tha there were unassisted passengers but I have found that some of the ships chartered for assisted migrants did take paying passenges who are poorly or un- documented.

Tyrone / FOWLER potters in Ireland
« on: Thursday 07 August 25 03:34 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking information about the family of Robert Fowler who was a potter and Ann McMullen (several versions of the name) active 1780-1840 in Co Tyrone. Their children were Enoch, Richard, John, Mary Ann, Eliza, Janne and Sarah born between 1805-1825. All children except Sarah emigrated to Australia in late 1830s. There apppears to be a connection to the estate of John Cranston called Cranebrook in Corr township near Coalisland but the Enoch I am searching for is NOT the Enoch who had a pottery in the area that operated in the 1830s and 40s. He is likley a relative. I know the Austrlaian side well but have no records, only old family reminicences for the Irish side.

Australia / Re: BUSHELLE/ BUSHELL Brisbane

I am loosely Bushelle related via the marriage of Henrietta Head to John Butler Bushelle brother of Tobias (Toby). The Bushelle and Wallace familiess have some amazing stories
For detailed information on John Bushelle and his sons (John Butler & Tobias) see https://www.sydney.edu.au/paradisec/australharmony/bushelle-family.php#1839

This site also includes extensive documentation on the Wallace and other musical families.

From my own research interests I would like to find out more about John Butler Bushelle's early life.
