London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1861 - Maddox Street
« on: Tuesday 26 June 07 17:08 BST (UK)  »
Thanks everyone for your replies and hard work. My catherine would have been about 18 at the time so  I dont think that can be her, but it may be her mother. I only know these were their listed addresses at the time of their marriage in 1862, so it was a bit of a shot in the dark. It is interesting that all of the occupants of no. 24 have names of german origin, as that is where anton was born.

Thanks again, Toby.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Phillip Roos- 1861/71/91 census

Hello I am wishing to find some more information on Phillip Roos b1832 in Germany. His wife was called Ann b1837 in Ashbourne and the children I know of were Phillip b1861, George b1865 and Ann b1867 all in Rotherhithe.

I know they were still living in Rotherhithe in 1881. I am particuarly keen to find some more information on Phillip seniors birthplace, and the existance on any more children.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Toby.

The Common Room / No fathers Name on birth certificate
« on: Thursday 21 September 06 13:37 BST (UK)  »
Hello my Dad was adopted and I recently aquired a copy of his original birth certificate, which gives the name of his mother but the fathers name is blank. I am told his mother was living with a man when he was born, however they were not married until a year later.

What does this mean? Is it that the father was simply not known or was it common at this time (50's) for the father not to be put on the marriage certificate if the child was born out of wedlock?  ???

Thanks, Toby.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1871 Mary Ann Lomax

Hi Emma, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I do not know the names of her parents, but I do know that she is the only Mary Ann Lomax born in Poplar around the time of her birth, i was hoping that would have been enough to find her. Otherwise I will have to send off for her marriage certificate.

Toby

« on: Monday 18 September 06 13:35 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for Kate Hartley born c1844 in st georges square. Her fathers name was Henry and he was a farmer. Unfortunately that is all I know about him. They would probably have lived in London/Middlesex at the time.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
