On an earlier thread, Bobinsky has already been given clear documentation linking George Garside to his parents Samuel and Maria.

Sorry my apologies I didn’t realise that I’ve had quite a lot going on recently that sometimes I lose track.

If I could nail down this marriage ... it would make me more confident ... it can be tough and tiring when you hit brick walls

I am at a loss to understand the difficulty here. This is not a brickwall. You simply need to order the marriage certificate from the General Register Office, as has been advised several times above. This is the normal way to proceed to establish the father's name with any confidence.

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/app_select.asp

As I understand it, this is your direct line, not a side-shoot. Civil registration certificates are the backbone of genealogy research in the 19th century - they are not 'optional extras'. Nine times out of ten they will give you the confidence to proceed backwards another generation. Speculation, and reliance on other people's online family trees, will not do that, and such mistakes can be costly in both time and money.

If perhaps you have never ordered a marriage certificate before and need help doing so, please ask on this thread.

Thank you unlike many here I am very inexperienced and am trying my best but I am grateful for all the help given.

In that case, if you have doubts, you need the marriage certificate

Thank you I’ll look into that and thank you for your help.

Seems to be the only George in the area as you say. In both 1851 and 1861, Samuel and Maria  are living in Course Gate, Wike.
In 1861, George is a few census pages away.

If I could nail down this marriage which is unlikely but not without effort on mine and your guys parts, it would make me more confident but I’ve added Samuel and Maria but I think the difficulty in accessing the necessary information may mean that we may not know the exact full details, take it as faith I have the right family, which I think I do, but can’t really at this point be 100% sure. I am loving trying but it can be tough and tiring when you hit brick walls but that’s all part t the fun and the challenge.

Sending for a marr. cert is no guarantee that it will include father's name/occupation. But it is the usual course.

The marriage you are chasing occurred in the 4th Qtr of 1856. The sighting of Hannah Asquith in a grouping that lacked a groom took place in the 4th Qtr of 1856. You could try and find if Michael Connolly married Ellen Mccarthy to eliminate them from the equation before investing in the cert.

Thank you for your help. I think based on what I already know I will base my findings on faith. This is what I already know so I apologise for repeating myself.

Joseph Garside was born appx 1862 in Bradford (my great grandfather)

George was his father and was born in 1823 from North Bierley and his spouse was Hannah Asquith as we know

The next part is on faith but I think or at least hope I have the right lineage. I have checked ancestry and done sone work and it all seems to fit.

Samuel Garside born 1798 was also from North Bierley and he married a lady called Maria Ledgard. Samuel’s father was James and I’m having trouble with James but that’s another story for now.

The trails seem to fit and I can’t find another George at this time born 1823 appx who fits those credentials so I hope I got this right.

I’m double checking as I’ve been led down a wrong path with another family lineage link where I had Edward McGlasson which was found in a search when whom I wanted was Robert McGlasson so fixed the link in the tree.

Anyways thank you for your help it is much appreciated.

There is a spouse missing in these indexes:

Bradford December 1856 vol 9b pg 241
Hannah Asquith
Michael Connolly
Ellen McCarthy

Have you looked at that one?

I did I’m trying to find out the name of George’s parents to confirm a query thank you.

What do you mean by "I did"? Did you send for the cert?

No no I had a brief look on ancestry but couldn’t find the information I needed

They had a daughter Sarah Ann 1858 who died 1858.

If they followed naming patterns  Sarah/Sarah Ann could be Hannah's mothers name

The newspaper article simple states On Christmas Day at Red Chapel, Cleckheaton, by Revd. Robert Cuthbertson. Mr. George Garside to Miss Hannah Asquith of Low Moor.

Thank you I appreciate this. I think pinpointing George and Hannah’s parents may prove tough but I hope I have got the right family as everything seems to fit.

It is possible that George's name has not been included in the GRO listings.  The original documents for March quarter 1857, available to view via FreeBMD, Ancestry and FindMyPast, show that they are hand-written lists, rather than the printed pages.  For some reason there are no listings for December quarter 1856 - surname Garside.

Thank you so much it’s proving a challenge this I am just trying to confirm whether the lineage I currently have is accurate. Everything seemingly fits but I’ve had an issue before where I went down a false trail.

I know I have Joseph born 1862 in the Bradford area and his father is definitely George. The rest is not certified yet but I think George married Hannah Asquith and I am trying to see whether his parents are Maria and Samuel. It all seems to fit but I’ve been down blind alleys before.

However, thank you for your help. It is much appreciated.
