those children would've all been born before he went & married Eleanora in 1860, & I know there wasn't a marriage to Jane not under Chatfield anyway. Its not unusual for unmarried mothers to claim to be married on census, or in my tree, pretend theyre widows. Jane & Marys birth date & locations all exact matches and both boys under chatfield as maiden name, if you can't find Mary Ann or mother Jane in 1871 to rule them out. I am trying to find any marriage or baptism of the boys, its taking my mind off my brick wall for a bit  ;D that and the admin I'm supposed to be doing

You can still access Knightroots through - The Way Back Machine -

here's the link for the transcriptions A-Z

https://web.archive.org/web/20250426142925/https://www.knightroots.co.uk/transcriptions

for the ones that had an Excel Doc inserted, which doesnt show on the way back,

Right Click on the now empty Document space, Inspect, scroll down to the URL that has googledocs in, then highlight, Copy & Paste the docs URL & it will bring up the Document insert

If you tracked down the mum and made contact and took a DNA test, did you not ask her? If they were all surprised to know she had a child adopted out does make you wonder why, or if it was consensual. Good luck anyway I was trying to trace a partner's adopted father I spoke to some people on Facebook when I said why I was looking their attitude changed ,l, don't think they believed me, his mum was only 14 at the time bless her
