Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Lookup Requests - 17th Century Probates
« on: Tuesday 08 July 25 17:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I've looked for the probates/wills for the following individuals:

Maddison Grey, buried Stanhope, Durham, 28 May 1700
Matthew Gray, buried Stanhope, Durham, 13 Feb 1641

They do not appear in the pre-1858 Durham Probate Records at Durham University's online database: https://familyrecords.awh.durham.ac.uk/nei/data/advanced.php

A staff member at Durham University archives suggested these probates might have been recorded at either the Prerogative Court of York, held at the Borthwick Insitutue of York, or the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, at the National Archive.

If someone has reason to search those record sets could you search for these probates?
Note that the surname might be spelled Gray or Grey.
If this request should be posted elsewhere please let me know.

Thank you.

Terrific, thanks. I was able to make that first link work by removing the ".au" in the URL, as I'm accessing these from the US and my subscription has different credentials. If it's not too much trouble are you able to send those other records in the same format as the first as opposed to the "rootschat ..." URL's.

Again, thank you!

I found those 2 baptism records for Joice Jollife! I'll keep looking for the other records. Thank you!

Thank you for all of this. So yes I see that 1702 marriage of John Jolliffe to Mary Wakeley, and the baptism of Elizabeth Packer in 1734. But for some reason I'm unable to find those JOLLIFFE baptisms in 1710 and 1711 on Ancestry (nor any of the other sites I use). Nor do I see the marriage banns. Very strange.

Yes, that's definitely possible. Can I ask where you're seeing these records? I'm unable to find them on FindMyPast or Family Search. Thank you.

I'm hoping to learn more about Joice Jolliffe, the wife of Charles Packer, who were married 04 July 1731, in Horfield, Gloucester.  Any details from her marriage or death that might identify her parents or birthplace would be appreciated.

Notes:
1. There are some who allege her full name was Margaret Joyce Jolliffe (or Jollief).
2. Some assert she died in 1756, but I've seen no solid evidence.

Ok thanks. Yeah I've seen that Geneanet claim. Looks like wishful thinking, but maybe someone will come forward with some solid evidence.
