Hello, I am a descendant of Margaret Butler (daughter of John Butler and Mary Luby). Margaret Butler and Michael Dwyer's oldest son, John William Dwyer, left Ontario as a young man for the U.S. and eventually settled in Gooding Idaho. John W. Dwyer is my great-grandfather.
I am also trying to research my Irish roots. I was wondering if you could possibly share any records that you have? You mentioned in your post that family stories say John Butler was murdered for being Catholic, and that Mary Luby came to Ontario as a widow. That is tragic, but also gives a plausible reason as to why she would have emigrated. These are the kinds of stories I would love to share with my family.
If I am able to find any records I am happy to share them with you as well!
Thank you so much!
