Whilst looking for Crawley baptisms I found the following at St Johns cathedral RC, parents Michael Crawley and Ann nee Pellington

Ann 1855
Michael 1855
Thomas 1859
Marcus 1861

The family are in the 1861 Census RG09/639/F13/p22 transcribed as Crowly

But no sign of a Hannah born 1850

Emeltom

Well funny enough........Michael Crawley and Ann Pellington are my GGGG Grandparents, I come through down their daughter Ann's line - she did indeed marry Edward Brimecome (3rd July 1878).

Ann Pellington died 29th Sept 1905.

I cannot find a suitable Death record of her husband Michael Crawley. Anyone ??? Apart from the one in Portsea 1866....but that gives a Birth date of 1828....which I guess 'could' be correct.......what are the thoughts of the RootsChat Jury ???

Apologies in slightly de-railing the Thread. I saw it when I put 'Ann Pellington Northumberland' into Google.

I don't think that Hannah is one of theirs.....

Good afternoon all.

I require a few pointers and advise on where I might find records of the 52nd Regiment of Light Infantry from Chatham Barracks in the 1860's.

My GGG Grandmother married 3 times :-

12th July 1859 to a Thomas Roomey - a Private in the 52nd Regiment at Chatham Barracks

16th March 1864 to a Richard Fagg - a Butcher based at Chatham Barracks

11th July 1866 to a Joseph Jackson - a Corporal in the 52nd Regiment at Chatham Barracks : they had a son Thomas Jackson born 9th July 1871 \ Baptism 23rd July 1871 in Malta - I have the Birth certificate that states 52nd Regiment of Light Infantry. Interestingly, the Father's rank is now Private. MC O'Dell is stated at Senior Chaplin. Adjutant Lt BM Pulteney

My thanks in advance to any help, ideas and thoughts that could be suggested.

Kerry

Hi Kerry,

If you can go back a bit further with your Grandad, it might link into one of the mentioned Brimecome's in this thread.

Keep us posted.

Hi again

Yes, Stanley and wife Florence Christabel (Chivers) came to NSW in 1927 via SS Ballarat, with their two children, Hazel Doreen and Audrey Joyce. Florence's parents also came to NSW around this time.

Stanley and Florence married on 27 Aug 1921 at Llanhilleth, Monmouthshire, Wales (we have the marriage cert). I have traced Stanley's family back through censuses in Llanhilleth. His father Charles was born in Linton, Herefordshire about 1860, his mother Fanny in Lydbrook, Gloucestershire.

Although there were several Stanley Williams enlisted during WWI, none of them seem to match up with what I know of this Stanley.

The mystery at this end is that Stanley disappeared from his family in the 1930s. Christine (grand-daughter) doesn't know any more than that, as nobody would talk about him. She came to us (Cowra FHG) for help trying to find what had happened to him.

Stanley and Florence appear in the 1930 electoral roll of NSW, but that is his last appearance. So far I have been unable to find any further trace of him. Florence appears in the 1936 electoral roll as the wife of Patrick Coyne of Griffith, NSW (although I have found no marriage for them).

So - what happened to Stanley?

Sent an e-mail a couple of days ago Lindsay - did you get it ?

I spoke to my father, but he can add no more to what I already knew.

I really need to get up into the loft and dig out the Williams files, that would help a bit. Also very happy to contact my new found Australian relatives.

All exciting stuff.

Thanks

Hi,

Came across your old post while helping a member of our local FHG research her family. Stanley was her grandfather, here in NSW Australia. If you get this I can fill you in on some details, as well as a mystery at this end.

Lindsay Swadling in Cowra, NSW

That sounds pretty promising !

Since posting up the original thread, my life has got busy busy and Family History has been pushed to the back of my life........and all the paperwork into the loft ! And a couple of house moves etc !

However, despite getting married and having a child, I have a pretty good memory, so the information that I started this thread is very handy to me.

So pleased I did a lot of Family Reasearch a few years ago - as there is little time now. However, this will I hope be changing soon.

I would love to know what information you have - can you confirm the link back to Wales ?

And I would be really interested in the 'mystery' ?!!?!?

Quite happy for you to add details onto this Thread - then we can use other methods if there are documents etc.

Many thanks indeed. The me from 2014 really appreciates it.........and the me from 2006 would be amazed !!

Thank you

Hi Steve,

Have been forwarded to this Thread - wonder if you have anything for Havant Street - just behind The Hard. I also had ancestors on the streets immediately behind it - Bishop Street, Southampton Row etc etc.

Would be much appreciated if you have anything on Havant Street - and I can put up details of other streets as well.

Thanks greatly in advance.

Really appreciate that.

If anyone else has any more, that'd be fabulous.
