Thanks for your help so far.

For your future genealogy - It's free to search Scotland's Peoples indexes of BD&M and census and 6 credits to view/download an image (£10 for 40 credits).

Hi Trish,
I'm confused.
Scotland's People 1851 census one has one James Doy aged 71 from Kirkcudbright and only one James Doy born at all in Scotland, 1724 Kennoway. That's not even the same person.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

There is a George Doig listed in the 'Scotland, National Probate Index (Calendar of Confirmations and Inventories), 1876-1936' in 1903 (there's also one for 1904). Is anyone able to confirm if the death place is Forfar and the death date?
Thanks
Al

Apologies for taking so long to respond.
I agree with all the findings apart from a couple in #9 but I'm still learning and happy to be taught.

"On F/S she also had 2 daughters after John Doig died Agnes and Susan (from memory Agnes died early)"
I agree with Agnes as she was born in South St, Forfar, but Susan was born in Dundee. Is the fact that Flora Doig is an unusual name, enough to assume it's the same person? Flora is still listed in 1871 Forfar census.

"1851 the Family is under DOY on Ancestry"
There are only 13 entries for DOY in the 1851 census and none are from Forfar - I think this is a mistake! but I don't have access to Ancestry to check.

It makes sense to do nothing and only add information that I agree with to my tree. Hopefully others will get my tree as a match and amend their own records if they agree.

As to DNA - Am I missing something? Surely it only confirms connections to the living?

Family History Beginners Board / MyHeritage - advice on agreeing part matches
« on: Monday 02 June 25 13:17 BST (UK)  »
I have joined MyHeritage for a year. They offer me matches which I can 'confirm' or 'reject' if it's not the same person. The trouble is, it is the same person but I don't agree with all the dates shown. ie in this instance the person matches, the DOB matches but the DOD is wrong (I have the death certificate). Even worse at least 3 people have used this wrong date. Should I confirm or reject? I don't see an option to change the date.

Family History Beginners Board / Death of George Doig

Hi, I'm trying to find information about the death of my great grandfather George Doig.
I've seen his birth certificate, he was born in 1861 in Forfar, and his marriage cert to Rebekah (Rebeca) in 1893 but Scotlands People have no record of his death.
I found the following - George appears in 1901 census but doesn't in 1911. He's in the 1902/03 Val Roll at 72 Yeaman St. He was a painter and decorator.
He advertised in the Forfar Herald until 3 July 1903. He appears in the Forfar directory and yearbook 1903 (published 1902) page 12 as a male householder on Jamieson St and advertises his business on page 162 at 137 East High St. His name is scored through on the index of advertisers on page 2. He doesn't appear in the 1904 (published 1903) directory but 'Mrs George Doig' does as a female householder on page 39, at 58 Dundee Loan.
Do I assume therefor that that's as far as I can go and assume he died in 1903? Are there other
sources to check?
Any advice or information gratefully received.
Al
