James Logan took over as superintendent of the Dominick Street National School in 1879.  He lived there with his family until at least 1898 as his daughter, Lizzie, died in the family home (43 Dominick Street) on 11.4.1898.  Thus James was superintendent of the Dominick Street School for about 20 years. By the 1901 census, the family had moved to Ranelagh Road.  James is listed separately as a boarder in a house in Dundalk on census day.  It's not clear if that was a short stop on a journey or if he was based there teaching for a short time.  In the early 1900s, James gave up teaching and was appointed a receiver in the bankruptcy court of Dublin.  By 1911, the family had moved to Skerries, near one of their daughters, and in 1914, James and Jane Logan moved back to Northern Ireland where they died in 1924 and 1929 respectively.  I attach photographs of James and Jane Logan, my great, great grandparents.

Thank you.  I believe that is a different school.  My James Logan was a committed presbyterian!

James Logan was superintendant of the Dominick Street School in Dublin from 1879 until the early 1900s.  It was connected to the Ormond Quay Presbyterian Church in which he was an elder.  Jane Logan, his wife, also taught in this school.

Derry (Londonderry) / Re: McIlfactrick origins

I have a James Logan (b. 1842) who married Jane Bateman on 7.9.1866.  Jane was living in Kilrea at the time.  I wonder if the John Logan who married Jane McIlfatrick was related to my James (a schoolmaster) as I'm struggling to find information on his early family.  My James's father was called Hugh Logan and was a farmer.  Help appreciated!

Cork / Re: Ann Bateman - born Cork 1810 - father Michael

I believe that Michael Joseph Bateman (1814-1884) married Anne Beville (1814-1891) on 23.8.1842 in Ringville, co Waterford.  Anne's parents were Robert Beville (1785-?) and Melicina Bennett (1785-?).  Michael Joseph and Anne Bateman had at least four children:
* Jane Bateman (1845 - 20.2.1929)  She married James Logan (?.12.1842 - 19.2.1924) on 7.9.1866 and they had eight children together, including my great grandmother.  They were both teachers so moved about a lot.  It was this James Logan that was present at Michael Joseph Bateman's death in Dublin.  I have more information about this branch of the family if wanted.
* Anna Bateman (1846 - ?)
* William Bateman (1848 - 1.4.1916).  He married Mary Walsh (1842 - 24.10.1938) on 20.2.1883 and they had five children: Mary Anne b.4.2.1885; Michael Joseph b. 8.4.1887 (died 12.7.1917 in WW1 in the navy); William b. 21.5.1889 (served in the navy in WW1); Robert b. 1.11.1890 (married Ada Irene Hoyland in October 1922 in Grimsby and died on 21.5.1947); John (Johnny) b. 13.5.1894 (Johnny married Elizabeth Ryan and had at least two children with her - Mary (2.6.1916-3.1.1917) and Mathew (10.10.1917-9.4.1918).  Elizabeth died before Mathew on 1.1.1918.  Johnny married again to Alice Tobin (1916- 19.11.1936) on 31.10.1935, leaving one infant child before Alice died.  Johnny married a third time to Margaret Kelly (1906-1988).  They also had a child.
* Melicina/Mellisina Bennett Bateman (1848 - 19.1.1928).  She married William Turner on 17.1.1867 in Swatragh, Antrim and they had at least one son, Robert.  Melicina Turner died in Auckland New Zealand, so I assume they emigrated there.
