In a previous post I wrote,  "I think I can help a little.
John McManus born 9 Sep 1799 in Ardersier married Margaret Murdoch in 1817 in Elgin Scotland. They had at least 11 children, one of which was my gggrandfather John McManus born in 9 Jan 1823.
Looking at the Scotish census records, the family is in Scotland in 1841, but they are nowhere to be seen in 1851 or thereafter.  Therefore I believe they immigrated to Ireland because my ggrandmother Geraldine Bridget McManus, born 8 August 1859, testified she was born in Ireland in USA marriage records.  Her mother was Elizabeth Flanagan.   I haven't been able to detect  where in Ireland John and Margaret immigrated to in Ireland, but I believe John and Elizabeth died in Aughindaigh, near Derrylin. FYI, the family, from John born in 1799, etc., were members of the Church of Scotland."

I now believe the McManus family in Aughindaigh is NOT connected to this Scottish McManis family who lived in Elgin.  But I still believe they immigrated to Ireland sometime after 1841.

In follow up research, there is a McManus family living in the Drumlaydan-Tullybrack area which MAY POSSIBLY be the family I believe immigrated to Ireland from Elgin Scotland.

What prompted you to check out Templeport?  Wow!!  The names John McManus and Elizabeth (Biddy, Eliza, etc.) Flanagan are not uncommon...but nowhere (maybe only once) in 'many' searches in many different databases have I seen any McManus - Flanagan unions.  Also I find it interesting that one of the sponsors was Bridgit Flanagan...my ggrandmother is Geraldine 'Bridgit' McManus.  Therefore your find is very exciting and I appreciate it.  Now I will BEGIN my search of the Catholic records at Templeport to see if I can find more records to develop this family.  Thanks again!!  Mike

Thank you.  It matches up with the information I retrieved on GRONI, and good to have a copy of the 'original' record.  I looked at the 1901/1911 census data for Frank McManus, which is 'probably' the same Frank in the death records for John and Elizabeth McManus.  I noticed there was a Hugh McManus living in the building next door.  In Hugh's 1903 death record, Frank testified he was Hugh's nephew.  So the Hugh and John McManus in Aughindaigh were brothers.

While much of this seems a good fit to be my gggrandparents John and Elizabeth, I cannot be 100% sure until I can locate a record which has her maiden surname Flanigan.  I am going to begin looking at the on-line Catholic records in the area for a marriage record.  //I remember my grandfather telling me his family went back and forth between be Catholic and Protestant.//  So if I can't find a Catholic record, I'd like to check the Church of Ireland records but don't believe there is anything on-line right now.  Also, if I could determine where they are buried, perhaps I can write to that church to see if there are any records of interest.

All the above said, I want to thank you again, for following up on my previous posts.

Mike

Sorry to take so long to respond.

Yes, this is the death record that I found that I believe may be my gggrandfather John McManus.  In further research I found the death record of Elizabeth McManus (maybe Flanagan?) in 23 Dec 1895, a widow, age 68, also in Aughindaigh, near Derrylin.   Her death record said her husband's name was John (McManus.)

I wasn't able to find her death record in IrishGenealogy.ie.  I found it in GRONI.

Do you have information on these two people?

Looking for any information about John McManus and Elizabeth (Flanagan) McManus who farmed the area of Aughindaigh, west of Derry, in the latter half of the 1800s.

Hi,
I think I can help a little.
John McManus born 9 Sep 1799 in Ardersier married Margaret Murdoch in 1817 in Elgin Scotland. They had at least 11 children, one of which was my gggrandfather John McManus born in 9 Jan 1823.
