Dating Renwick cdv. The card shown has a medal dated 1874. It must be after that date.  I have 4 differnt design cdv with medals illustrated. The next on shows 3 medals and the added ones are both dated 1883/4.  The TRELLIS design was common in 1874 and had more or less died out by 1880 although Renwick appears to have used up his stock after that date.  Conclusion - definitely between 1874 and 1884.  Many Renwick cdv have negative nos on them which would have helped.  This one does not appear to have one. Hi, studio records (day books) are almost certain to have been destroyed many years ago.  There are only a few examples about (Silvy etc), mainly from top photographers. Sorry.  Ron

Hi, Watkins & Haigh had a studio at 213 Regent Street in 1874 only.  I have 2 cdv actually dated 1874 in the collection.

Herbert Watkins had a studio on his own at 215 Regent Street up to 1873.

By 1875 213 Regent Street was run by Edward Haigh alone. (Source Directory of London Photographers). This is pretty precise dating.  Ron Cosens

Hi, I have scanned the 12 images back & front and will send by separate email.  Also an entry from a directory.   The Victorian Image Collection is a privately owned, very large archive of original Victorian cartes de visite and cabinet cards put together to assist Family History, Local History and publication researchers (authors).   Archive items are not for sale but can be scanned for research or publication purposes. A small charge is usually made. Additionally, thousands of spare cdv from all over the UK and Eire which are not required by the archive  are available for sale. Hi, according to RPS list George Renwick was at 105 New Street in 1876, in 20 Station Street 1880-1905, 4 Bank Square in 1912 and 6 Bank Square in 1916.  Bad news is he did not usually put his full address on his card mounts.  Good news is you can tell approx dates from the number of medals publicised on the mount and also from the negative reference numbers.. For a more accurate date, post an image of the BACK of the card.  Ron Cosens

:) Hi, I have  about 10 different styles of cdv mount by John Humphrey.  He was at 123 and 127 King Street.  I only have one cdv that I can part with as the others are in the archive.  However, I could arrange scans.  In 1881 he had 6 children. Ron Cosens
