Success, I finally have it!

You were all correct it was under a different name. 'Brian Nann'.
Special thanks to "dublin1850" for sending that over to me.

 :)

Thanks for getting back to me with that information. Bernard Naan was catholic. I did look on the GRONI database and nothing comes up. I did search for earlier possible deaths (post 1921) when his second marriage occurred but still nothing.

Family History Beginners Board / Contacting local parish re burial records?

I have posted on here before about finding the the death date for my great grandfather  (Bernard Naan 1868) from Alnaponer, Brookborough, county Fermanagh. It's driving me nuts. So far nothing on ancestry, or the Irish GRONI website. Various name and surname spellings searched etc, tried searching his second wife also. I did find some marriage documentation today for his first daughter Mary in 1941 on the Irish genealogy website. Her husband's father was listed as deceased but Bernard Naan was not. So I'm assuming he was alive in 1941?

I resorted to using chat GPT for some advice on the matter today! It said that it wasn't unusual for someone to disappear from records, especially landless labourers in rural Ireland and if the burial was informal with no headstone for example. It did say to reach out to local parishes and ask if they have any burial records or mass records for him.

Not sure how true any of this is, but I have the contact details of 2 potential parishes. Surely though a death after 1941 there would be some record of it online?? Especially on the Irish GRONI website.

I'm just curious if anyone has had any success contacting a parish directly for information when all else has failed?

With regards to the newspaper article. I believe it could be, his grandfather was called James Naan but I believe he had passed away by 1906. It doesn't help however that everyone seems to share the same names within the family! He was also still married to Catherine Lynch at that point until her death in 1911

Yes I believe that is the correct Bernard Nann in the 1901 census, he was married shortly after this. Susanna Naan was his half sister and I am a DNA match to someone who descends from her. It's always confused me because on his marriage documentation it says he was 30 when married however...

Thank you so much for your replies and that information.
I will use that website for post 1922 NI searches going forward.

I also forget that sometimes Names are sometimes documented slightly different.

Strange that there doesn't seem to be any death record of Bernard still, I'm guessing it's possible he was living elsewhere at the time... I will try and look into it.

Thanks again 👍🏻

I'm new to the the forum and new to ancestry etc. I'm finding it very interesting also confusing! I have a lot to learn! I'm definitely finding the Irish side of my family more challenging to research.
I'm specifically trying to find a death date for my great grandfather (Bernard Naan) who was was born 1868. From county Fermanagh, Altnaponer. (Also lived in Clones and Brookboro I believe) I have found the Irish genealogy website very useful. I have found marriage documentation to my great grandmother (Catherine Lynch) although Bernard Naans age is a couple of years off on this, I believe this is an error.
Catherine Lynch died a few days after child birth to my Grandfather in 1911 and Bernard Naan remarried a Mariane McQuaid in 1921. I can't seem to find any record of what happened to Bernard or Marianne, I have looked on ancestry, the Irish genealogy website, it's like they just disappeared. My grandfather died in the 50s when my dad was a baby so unable to ask relatives.
Does anyone know where else I can look?
Thanks I'm advance 🤞🏻
