Good afternoon,

Thank you very much for your detailed message, it is really appreciated.

I emailed the Italian Foreign Ministry Archives in November 2024 and they replied to tell me that my request had been forwarded to the Italian Embassy in Cairo, but I am still yet to hear anything back from them.

I will however use the information you've provided to email a direct request to the Italian Embassy in Cairo, so thank you for those links.

Again, thank you for your help and all the information you provided.

Kind regards
A

Hello,

I'm new to Rootschat and still getting used to using the messages, but I'm searching my husband's Italian tree and looking for his families B/M/D certificates from Italy.

I have been talking to various State Archives through emails and online chats (a lot of Italian State Archies also have their own Facebook pages which are very useful, but do make sure they are the verified pages). They can be very helpful in regards to finding out if your relatives where registered to that area before applying to the local comune for certificates. You do need to have a date for the person you're enquiring about, any B, M or D date will help them do the search and hopefully you'll get some new information back regarding connected family members. But always enquire if you don't have any of your relatives B/M/D dates, State Archives can be very helpful and friendly when they want to be and will search various dates/names.

I did end up travelling over to the State Archives I was talking online with, they booked me a 'viewing room' there so I could research the through archives books/paperwork myself and I found a lot of information connecting more relatives to my tree. They were very helpful in assisting me with the searches and you can buy some copies of the details you found... Some State Archives do limit the amount of books you can look through in a day though, mine was 6 a day so you might need a number of days there.

Here is some useful links for Pozzuoli, Naples. I hope this is helpful information if you haven't done any of these searches before. Hopefully they maybe able to find some new connections to your mother-in-law for you and give you some new names of relatives. Good luck.

P.s do not email any of the email addresses with 'pec' in them, they are contact email addresses for Italian residents only and you will not get a response from them.

Kind regards
A

Europe / MISSING Italian birth record, born in Alexandria, Egypt

Hello all,

I'm a beginner on here so just getting used to using this chat and would appreciate any help given...

I'm looking for my father-in-law's birth certificate. He was born in Alexandria, Egypt on 3rd November 1934. We have confirmed his details with his old Italian passport and his British divorce certificate. He moved to England with his first wife in 1958.

My father-in-law's parents were both born in Brindisi, Italy. We have found that his mother moved to Alexandria, Egypt with her family in 1898 at the age of 3 years old.

My father-in-law's parents married in Alexandria, Egypt in 1918. In 1919 my father-in-law's eldest sister was born in Alexandria, Egypt and her birth has been recorded in the Brindisi State Archives Italy and the Brindisi Commune, as was his parents marriage and births.

We have now been to the Brindisi State Archives and confirmed my father-in-law's parents marriage, births and his eldest sister being born in Alexandria, Egypt and have copies of all the transcripts.

BUT... My father-in-law's birth from 1934 can not be confirmed by Brindisi State Archives as the birth records book is missing from 1932-1934. The Brindisi Commune (Town Hall) has now confirmed they have no record of my father-in-law's birth. We also can not find my father-in-law's eldest brothers birth transcript from 1920's in the Brindisi State Archives.

My father-in-law came to live in England in 1958. He left Alexandria, Egypt with all of his family and first wife during the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956. All of the family lived in Rome and my father-in-law's old Italian passport states he was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1934 and was domicile of Rome. We have copies of my father-in-law's parent's death certificates from Rome and did request my father-in-law's birth certificate from the same Commune to see if it had been transcribed there instead of Brindisi but it is not there either.

Where can I now look and request a copy of my father-in-law's birth certificate please?

If it is in Alexandria, Egypt where do I send a request for his birth record please?

Thank you for any help and advice given.
